GMG Integrates GMG
OpenColor, GMG ColorProof
With DIC COLORCLOUD
TUEBINGEN, Germany---GMG GmbH
& Co KG announced DIC COLORCLOUD
will integrate with its 2014 FTA Technical
Innovation Award winning GMG Open-
Color and GMG ColorProof platforms.
GMG OpenColor was
developed to facilitate
high quality spot color
based proo ng dedicat-
ed for packaging applications. It precisely
predicts spot to process overprints and
saves costs by reducing the number of press
ngerprints or press trials required and
reducing lengthy makereadies. e core
of this technology relies on spectral based
algorithms. Color information selected
through DIC COLORCLOUD contains
spectral data of real inks.
3M Symposium Discusses Efficiencies, Process
ST. PAUL, MN---Roughly 50 exographers and industry members attended 3M's Flexo
Symposium on July 16, held at the company's Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN.
Jamie Eggleston from 3M and Ellen Farrell from DuPont began with an overview of exo
printing, showing how far the process has come. Eggleston went into a discussion of plate
mounting tape and how it a ects mounting, on press activities and demounting. at was
followed by Farrell's talk about tools and tips to improve print performance, touching on
photopolymer plates and the e ect of other critical aspects like:
• Trimming plates
• Wrapping plates
• Protecting polymer
• Plate storage
• Press sprays
3M's Ann Michaud closed by discussing mount-
ing tape optimization. She led with an examina-
tion of trends and how they a ect print results:
• Harder durometer plates
• Increasing press speed
• New plate technologies
» High resolution imaging/hybrid screening
» Flat top dot technology
• Expanded Gamut printing
She juxtaposed sound tape practices with these devel-
opments. By adhering to Flexographic Image Repro-
duction Speci cations & Tolerances (FIRST) guidelines and choosing tape optimal to your
situation, she said printers can optimize print quality and improve productivity.
Other speakers at the event included:
• Jerry Vogler of 3M
• Sherry Cunningham of DuPont Packaging Graphics
