HOMELIVING » ADVERTISING FEATURE ASK THE EXPERTS While Eve Harpley was considering how to improve the comfort and insulation of her home, she found some appealing new ideas on the website of ABSOL Awning Blind & Shutter Solutions of Mona Vale. ABSOL owners Steve Payne and Scott Parkin, say the business is all about providing window furnishings, service, innovation and value that is ultimately good enough for customers to recommend to friends. They can advise clients on the best value-for-money products for home or commercial settings. I want to find the best blockout product for my home, on a budget. What are some options? We have blinds, shutters and awnings that will help shade and insulate your home. We are a solutions business, so we can professionally advise on the best blockout fabrics for window furnishings, starting with the most effective fabric colours. Darker fabrics let in less light than lighter fabrics. If roller blinds are selected, we can ensure gaps between butting blinds are minimised. We also have a large range of plantation shutters, and many different awnings for shading under windows. Would blinds be a more economical choice even if I like the look of window shutters? Shutters have become much more affordable, leading to a move away from traditional blinds. Whisper shades, a fabric venetian with sheers either side, are fantastic for offering privacy while letting the light in, and panel-glide shades -- an evolution of the vertical blind -- are contemporary and popular. Plantation shutters are available in single-panel, hinged configurations through to extensive 10-panel shutter systems. What contemporary shutter styles do you offer? Customcraft compressed-timber, vinyl-coated shutters are attractive and the most reasonably priced. Other value-for-money shutters come in cedar, basswood, aluminium and synthetic artwood, especially suited to wet or damp areas. Shutter systems can be fitted to any window area and plantation shutters matched to architraves. Can I see what it would look like before I decide? We highly recommend that, before making your decision, you visit our showroom. We can show you every product suited to your needs, and can demonstrate remote-controlled and manually- operated products to help you choose what's best for a particular setting. There is no pressure, because we understand you need time to decide. How long does it then take until installation? If you select plantation shutters, it is generally six weeks from acceptance of the order to installation. For blinds, it takes on average from two to four weeks, and for awnings, we can mostly install within four weeks.
