Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your question or fax Ask The Experts 9689 5399. HOMELIVING » ADVERTISING FEATURE ASK THE EXPERTS The Brennan family have made good use of their bathroom for the past 25 years. Because it is looking rather tired and out- dated, they believe it is time to upgrade. Where should they should start? Bathroom Effect owners Angela and Nick Colosimo have bathroom renovations down to a fine art. ''The business has 40 years' experience in the industry and can undertake any bathroom and laundry renovation expertly,'' Mr Colosimo says. At the West Ryde showroom visitors will find 15 actual- size bathrooms to inspect and ample ideas to help in the decision-making process. ''We understand that people don't often renovate wet rooms like the bathroom and because we undertake this type of work all the time we make it easy for homeowners and understand their concerns,'' Mr Colosimo says. ''Most people have some sort of an idea of what they want prior to renovating and the showroom is fitted with all manner of vanities, toilets, shower screens, tapware and everything else that is required in these rooms. ''The first thing to look at is size, then select items that fit.'' Because we haven't done anything like this before, what are the steps that will be taken? We organise all trades. If you have a timber house we remove the existing bathroom and resheet it with new plaster walls and if it is a brick house the walls are rendered. The plumbing and electrical is all checked prior to the new walls being put in place. We take off the old board as it takes longer to remove the tiles, making it a longer process. For a quality job new walls are imperative, especially for waterproofing as it makes an excellent key for tile adhesion. How long should we expect the renovation to take? It will take two weeks for a timber home and three for brick as the render has to dry thoroughly. We are not sure how we will manage without a bathroom what do most people do? When you have only one bathroom it is going to be disruptive, however, if you don't have friends or family who can allow you to use their amenities we can organise the hiring of a portable bathroom. This can be delivered into a garage on site. These bathrooms have a toilet, shower and vanity. Some people like to renovate the bathroom themselves rather than have it project managed. This will mean they have to co-ordinate the delivery of a number of different products, as well as up to half a dozen tradespeople, before work can begin. Bathroom Effect is a great place for DIYers to buy everything needed for the job. Details: Bathroom Effect, 998 Victoria Rd, West Ryde. Call 9809 0852.
