Home Living : December 9th 2008
6 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, December 9, 2008 The point of paint HOMELIVING Is there a way to add value to your home even if you don't have the skills or budget to go through a full renovation? According to real estate agent Tim Heavyside, you can add real value without picking up a hammer simply by repainting your home. ''How you present your home is vital to ensure you get a positive response from potential buyers,'' Mr Heavyside says. ''In these tough economic times, paint is the most cost-effective way to make a dramatic improvement without the expense of employing an architect, builder, electrician or plumber. ''And while a professional painter is likely to give the best results, you can also do the job yourself and save on labour.'' But even a coat of paint won't attract buyers if the colour scheme doesn't suit. You'll also need to consider the home's style when making your choices. The Rohm and Haas Paint Quality Institute recommends you look for colour cards from paint manufacturers. Acrylic paints use higher-quality pigments that not only provide more intense colours, but are better at hiding the old surface, and the 100 per cent acrylic formula provides durability. For ideas on colour, look around your neighbourhood, check design mags and talk with the people at your local paint store. You can also get lots of colour inspiration, schemes and decorative painting techniques at www.paintquality.com.au New fans tower over competition » ADVERTISING FEATURE Fans offer the most flexible and portable way to cool the home and this summer it's all about tower fans. The new Sunbeam remote-control tower fans extend the brand's cooling range with two designs that offer the latest in styling and technology. The high-performance tower fans deliver a tall sheet of air to cover a greater surface. In a choice of 90cm and 120cm models, the fans include the modern convenience of remote- control operation. A choice of three settings and auto off-timer combine well with the fan's nature setting, designed to simulate a gentle natural breeze. Other practical benefits include 70-degree oscillation to reach a wider room area, a carry handle and a small footprint to maximise floorspace. The Sunbeam 90cm tower fan features an additional sleep setting designed to be used when retiring to bed. The fan's speed gradually decreases until the unit is operating on a low speed. When used in conjunction with the auto off timer, the fan switches off after one, two, four or eight hours. Ideal for larger living spaces, the 120cm tower fan has a brushed finish. The Sunbeam remote-control tower fans are available from electrical retailers and department stores. The 90cm RRP is $99.95 and the 120cm RRP is $179.
