Home Living : February 10th 2009
HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 7 A step in the right direction » ADVERTISING FEATURE Step up to the job with a new range of step stools from StepRight by Bailey. The range of 100kg domestic-rated step ladders enables you to choose the most appropriate step stool for your needs. At 2.4m, the two-step stool is good to give you a small boost, while the three- step provides an extra advantage. In addition, the three-step with tray has the benefit of allowing you to keep cleaning products and tools close at hand. The lightweight stools are easy to manoeuvre and are great for safely getting to those hard-to-reach places when cleaning and storing goods. The domestic step stools have passed Hills Industries' rigorous testing regime for safety. The extra-wide, slip-resistant steps, high- grip treads and a safety latch ensure security and stability for all ages. Bailey advises that to avoid serious injury it is important to ensure all safety features are in the locked position, the ladder is placed on stable ground, and the most appropriate step ladder has been chosen for the job. Starting any project with a secure and safe ladder is the first step to ensuring a job done right. The StepRight range by Bailey is available from hardware stores and is priced from $35. ''How many houses have a hall these days?'' Mr Wolfe asks. ''By hall I mean an actual room in to which the visitor steps before getting to the rest of the living accommodation rather than a tiny vestibule with just enough space for a hallstand and maybe a mirror . . . on the wall. ''We've become rather dismissive of halls or reception areas, possibly because in the past we saw them as unwelcoming and elitist, a relic of the times when visitors were expected to cool their heels while the decision was taken whether they should be admitted to the main body of the home.'' Mr Wolfe says with the trend towards bigger homes, halls are making a comeback ''as areas that announce and advertise the personality of the householder and the quality of the home that lies beyond''. A hall is a possible option to add during renovations, perhaps by incorporating an adjacent room to achieve the extra space.
