FTA TODAY e . Founding Sponsors Ron&Katherine Harper HARPE A New Approach to Regional Workshops and Co-Sponsored Events By Melinda Schroepfer A s reported in the November issue of FLEXO, TEST (Technical Education Services Team) recently celebrated its very productive first year of service to the flexographic industry. A major step in FFTA's ongoing commitment to pro- viding the industry with high quality technical education and training options was to place all of the Co-Sponsored Events and Seminars and 4.0 on the Go regional workshops under TEST's jurisdiction. This restructuring has allowed TEST to take a close look at these educational offerings and make some strategic changes that will benefit Co-Sponsored Event and Workshop at- tendees and the industry as a whole. TEST would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the important changes that will be implemented in 2009. Let's start with the revisions to the TEST regional workshop series. Planning for the 2009 FIRST 4.0 on the Go regional work- shop series began much earlier in the year in conjunction with TEST's curriculum re-alignment strategy. As previously men- tioned in many TEST-related articles, a key element of TEST's overall goal is to align all education and training curricula and materials with specific learning outcomes extrapolated from FIRST. Because the workshop series is designed as an overall basic introduction to FIRST principles, TEST has made curricular changes that will provide a consistent presentation of the basics. At this point, all regional workshop outcomes have been pulled from FIRST, documented and placed in workshop session tem- plates that will serve as the standardizing base for this method of training. Through using this format, TEST can ensure that every regional workshop attendee will receive the same FIRST -based, technically sound information regardless of where he/she attends a workshop or who presents the material. Using this standard- ized method will also provide workshop presenters a much more - focused approach to developing regional workshop presentations. Adopting this standardized curriculum approach will also aid the industry as a whole as it helps move everyone closer to a com- mon understanding of the educational requirements for a FIRST company-wide certification. Similarly, the process of aligning all training curricula to FIRST outcomes has influenced TEST's Co-Sponsored training events. Since the Co-Sponsored training events have traditionally centered on providing in-depth preparation for the Flexo Skills Certification tests, TEST has focused on ensuring curriculum consistency across all delivery platforms. The result is that all Skills Certification outcomes have been pulled from FIRST, docu- mented, further broken down into course-level and module-level competencies, and placed into training design templates that will serve as the standardizing base for all skills certification training. Using this method ensures that every skills training attendee will receive the same training content regardless of which plat- form (Le. online or in-person) is used for delivery or who is de- livering the content. This realignment of Co-Sponsored Event curriculum also ensures that all skills training attendees will receive the specific technical information needed to successfully complete the skills certification tests. Further, the close alignment to FIRST is also providing TEST with the ability to quickly change curriculum and or Skills Certification testing to keep pace with the rapid technical ad- vances taking place in the industry. Finally, through standardizing the training curriculum, TEST can help move the entire industry toward a common understanding and consistent application of FIRST principles and company-wide FIRST certifications. TEST looks forward to seeing you at the 4.0 on the Go regional workshops and Co-Sponsored training events in 2009! FEBRUARY 2009 www.flexography.org FLEXO
