FLEXO Magazine : March 2009
NEW NAME CHANGE With the newly formed green initiative, the FSEA is mak- ing other changes to broaden its scope as an association. Beginning, March 1, the association's name changed to the Foil and Specialty Effects Association. The continued emer- gence of print enhancement technologies in the marketplace such as cold foil, specialty coatings, laminates, and laser cutting has created a wealth of opportunity for growth in the print finishing industry. FSEA is committed to offering the same tangible and intangible benefits that the FSEA has always offered to this expanded group. However, foil and embossing will continue to be the integral focus of the as- sociation and remains the lead word in the new name of the association. New technologies to apply foil, such as the cold foil process, continue to develop. Although it utilizes a similar type of foil in the application, cold foiling is not a stamping process. With the new name, the FSEA is planning on developing specific programs and benefits for companies involved with cold foil, specialty UV coatings, and film laminating. In addition, the association will begin to educate graphic designers and brand marketers on the benefits of adding foil and other specialty finishes to their designs and products. The FSEA hopes to become a cohesive resource for all decorative finishing needs, and a sounding board that covers a wide range of processes. Additionally, keeping the acronym FSEA was important to this move, as it is recognized nationally and internationally, drawing more than 10,000 hits to the FSEA website each month. The FSEA is the same association but with a broader, unified focus. For more information on the Foil 8( Specialty Effects Association and/or specific inquiries on the new study on the recyclability and repulpability of foil-decorated paperfboard, please visit www.fsea.com or call 785-271-5816. the expanding number of questions regarding the topic of sus- tainability. The aim of the association and its members across the U.S. is to provide brand owners and graphic designers with the creative options that will meet evolving sustainability criteria without sacrificing shelf presence. The two objectives are not mutually exclusive and when processes of enhancements are se- lected properly consumers, retailers, and brand owners all benefit. More information will be available soon on further projects and studies developed through the FSEA and its industry partners. .
