Bonawandt ust a few short months ago, fl exography’s most cuttingedge print was on display at the 2009 Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) Excellence in Flexography Awards competition. Flexographic industry professionals—39 in all—volunteered their time to examine nearly 600 submissions from all across the globe, to fi nd those worthy of recognition in the annals of printing history. In the aftermath of two days of intense scrutiny, 135 awards were decided and set to be distributed to nearly the same number of individual print jobs. From among the batch, nine were selected as defi nitively No. 1 in their respective categories—the esteemed Best of Shows! J 56 FLEXO MAY 2009 WILD OVER WIDE WEB With more submissions than any other group, the wide web category covered a wide variety of entry types. Two sets of judges were required to score the samples. One focused on process jobs and the other handled screen and line work. Those that ranked the highest were then reviewed by both groups, and awards are given out by consensus. Seventeen jobs were chosen for medals. Amscan Inc., Bancroft Bag Inc., Coating Excellence International LLC and Tufco Technologies Inc., each earned two awards apiece.
