FLEXO Magazine : June 2009
FTA TODAY Survey Says?!?! FTA Members Talk Back M ore accurately, the headline of this month’s column should read, “Surveys Say.” Commencing at the FFTA Forum in Orlando, FL, in our ongoing effort to better understand the needs of our member companies, FTA began conducting four distinct surveys in order to identify marketplace trends. The Strategic Planning Initiative (SPI) survey was designed to ask a number of broad-based questions regarding the comprehensive bank of products and services that the organization provides to its membership. A total of 430 respondents, both at Forum as well as among the general membership population, completed the questionnaire via the ever-popular Web-based SurveyMonkey.com. Additionally, three more focused online surveys were conducted as the Forum came to a close. One was designed for all 2009 Forum attendees to complete as an evaluation of this year’s event and to provide suggestions for future programs (194 respondents). A second was distributed to individuals in FTA’s database that chose not to go to this year’s Forum (152). And a third was sent to the company contacts representing all INFO*FLEX exhibitors, soliciting feedback on this year’s show and input for our management team as we begin planning for Las Vegas (43). As you can imagine, the amount of valuable data that was collected cannot be adequately summarized in this one-page column. But I did want to highlight some of the more telling results. Here goes: Should the FFTA allow the use of commercialism in the presentations at the Annual Forum? Yes: 24% ; No: 29% Limited to new technologies only: 47% Would you be interested in receiving brief technical tips from FTA directly to your cell phone (text message format)? Yes: 11%; No: 89% In what format do you prefer to use the FLEXO SourceBook? Printed copy in FLEXO Magazine: 49% PDF on Web site: 28% Searchable online: 23% What infl uenced your decision not to attend FFTA’s 2009 Forum & INFO*FLEX Exhibition? Company travel restrictions: 53% Business off/state of the economy: 41.6% Would you like to see the FTA branch out into other areas of packaging such as digital print? Yes: 68% ; No: 32% Is a global FTA organization important to you? Yes: 75% ; No: 25% [At Forum] Did you fi nd one or more new solutions/products/services that you plan on utilizing in the near future? Yes: 77% ; No: 23% What topics would you like to see addressed at future Forums? (top 5 answers) Emerging Trends ; Productivity & Profi tability ; Lean Manufacturing ; Color Management ; Prepress Did you (an exhibitor) meet any new business prospects? Yes: 79% ; No: 21% Some general comments made by exhibitors, include: “The attendance was low, however most attending were upper management decisionmakers; INFO*FLEX consistently provides an excellent opportunity to meet old and new customers, help solve their problems and showcase new products; this is a great forum to keep on top of emerging technologies. The focus on education is always a plus.” This is a small snapshot of the complete picture provided by the FTA membership to assist the management team and volunteer leadership in preparing for future offerings throughout the organization’s business plan. In addition to documenting what our constituency fi nds valuable to them in the way of products and services, it is also extremely helpful to know the areas where our members see little or no value. This will obviously make our planning process that much more effective in all avenues of our business. If you would like to receive complete results from any of the four surveys referenced above, simply drop me an email markc@fl exography.org and I’ll get you a copy right away. Just make sure to indicate which survey you would like sent to you. Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete one or more of these questionnaires online.
