Bupa International Healthcare. Everywhere. +44 (0) 1273 718 304 www.bupa-intl.com Does your international medical insurance fit your needs? NEW Worldwide Health Options At last. Simple modular options that allow you to build a medical insurance policy that fits your needs.Whatever you're doing. And take it with you wherever you go. HEALTHCARE expatinvestor.com 12 EXPAT INVESTOR September/October 2009 A new individual medical insurance package that aims to "put the power of choice in customers' hands" has been launched by Bupa International. Wo rldwide Health Options promises to be a flexible plan that can be tailor-made to suit individual customers' needs. Its development has come about through comprehensive customer research and Bupa International is convinced it combines the best elements of its individual products into the one plan. The new plan is modular and features four 'bolt on' options covering: specialist treatment including situations where a hospital stay is not required prescribed medicines and medical equipment health screening, vaccinations, dental and optical treatment and worldwide evacuation for people who are unable to get the treatment they need in a local hospital. US cover is a further option, adds Bupa International, as well as a range of deductibles (similar to excesses) to help customers manage the cost of their cover. Plans can be assembled to suit customers' individual circumstances and the country where they spend most of their time, which means they only pay for the cover they need. What's more, planholders can be treated in any one of Bupa's 5,500 participating hospitals and clinics worldwide, including the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, which has a world-renowned trauma unit, the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami -- one of the top-rated hospitals in the US, with more than 50 specialisms, including head and spinal neurosurgery and neonatal intensive care -- and the Prince Court Medical Centre in Malaysia, which specialises in oncology, urology, burns treatment and heart and lung surgery. Customers also have access to Bupa's doctors and in-house medical teams in Brighton and Copenhagen, who arrange hundreds of emergency evacuations and repatriations each year and offer general medical advice and guidance, 24 hours a da y.The doctors are experts in high altitude diseases, tropical infections, patient evacuations and home transportations. They also have extensive experience of diagnosing and treating cancer, heart disorders and musculoskeletal conditions. Bupa's multi-lingual advisers speak more than 30 languages and handle 500 calls a day -- about everything from minor injuries to emergency evacuation -- offering comfort to customers wherever they are in the world. Bupa can help with medical referrals, booking advice, second opinions, travel and security information. Should a medical evacuation be necessary, Bupa will arrange an air ambulance, travel on a commercial flight with or without medical escorts, stretcher transportation and travel arrangements for relatives and friends. David Grint, commercial director for Bupa International, tells Expat Investor,"Research shows that our customers and inter mediaries wanted to be able to tailor cover to match their healthcare needs. The modular nature of the new plan enables us to offer people more choice and be more responsive to our customers' requirements. And as we move into new territories we can adapt the modules, rather than having to establish a new product that accounts for local compliance and regulation issues. Worldwide Health Options is a great leap forward and raises the bar for Bupa and the industry in general." News and developments in IPMI BUPA's worldwide packaged revolution MediCare International's latest launch is an international private health insurance policy option called Executive Plus which is aimed at working and retired expatriates of all nationalities around the world. The new policy option means clients can choose between four levels of cover. All MediCare International policies include a wide range of policy benefits covering essential items such as GP access, ambulance services, accident and emergency care, in-hospital costs, evacuation, home nursing cover and parental accommodation costs where a child under 17 years old requires treatment. The new policy option offers what MediCare International describes as "significant extra benefits in areas such as maternity care, pregnancy cover and childhood vaccinations which are now covered for the first time". The expectation is that these benefits will appeal to families with children. Other enhancements include a doubling of the cover for organ transplants surgery to reflect recent rises in the cost of complex medical operations and a new service covering outpatient psychiatric care costs. Commenting on the launch, Senior Executive Director David Pryor says, "With this new range of benefits, we are offering one of the most comprehensive international health insurance policies in the market. Our client feedback tells us that, working abroad, people actually want the best possible cover and are not prepared to cut corners. That said, our policies still offer some of the best value available and as standard, our policies are not limited to single country or regional areas, which many working expatriates find to be a great advantage."
