Home Living : October 20th 2009
HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, October 20, 2009 5 Cool and clever » ADVERTISING FEATURE HOMELIVING Disappearing into the door frame when not in use is a new two-in-one retractable screen that includes screen and cloth combinations to provide privacy, temperature control and sun protection. In 2008 Centor Architectural's retractable screen system won awards for innovation and became popular with architects. The new option of a fully retractable thermal blind extends its practicality and could save homeowners hundreds of dollars on heating and airconditioning costs. Centor managing director Nigel Spork says the extended options available with the new Centor S1E Eco-screen means homeowners can have a range of lifestyle choices, including insect protection, with uninterrupted views and breezes, part or full privacy, shade or winter warmth. The S1E window or door covering can be positioned either completely out of sight or on show to provide a practical alternate use such as a projector screen. Mr Spork says in hot conditions, the thermal control blind can be slid across during the day to exclude solar heat, similar to double glazing, but with the added benefit of shading. ''In cool winters the thermal control blind can be deployed in the evening to significantly reduce heat loss,'' he said. The durable thermal blind is available in two fabrics -- privacy and shade -- both of which are available in six colours. The system also allows for a choice of opening positions and the frames are available in custom colours or wood veneers.
