FLEXO Magazine : January 2010
www.flexography.org JANUARY 2010 FLEXO 15 FTA Technical Innovation Award New Deadline, Criteria Announced In today 's fast-paced world, technology is in a constant state of flux, ever changing to meet the needs of tomor- row---needs which themselves evolve with the times. With this in mind, Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) has redefined the evaluation criteria, formalized the judging process, established a deadline for submissions and issued a call-for-entries for its prestigious and highly sought after 2010 Technical Innovation Award. These developments, requested by FTA's general member- ship, mark the first full-scale revisions in the program's 16- year history. The award will continue to recognize the highest technical advancements and most significant contributions to the continuous improvement of the flexographic printing/ converting industry. The 2010 competition boasts many new process improve- ments, most notably how each entry is evaluated for technical innovation and how the judging of entries is carried out by a team of industry professionals. FTA/FFTA President Mark Cisternino commented, "Since the award's inception, very little has changed with regard to the Technical Innovation Award evaluation criteria and the judging process. Constructive feedback from past entrants over the years has contributed to the program enhancements that we are implementing for this year's competition. We are confident that, with these changes, the FTA Technical Innova- tion Award will continue to recognize the very best in flexo- graphic technology for years to come." THE NEW JUDGING PROCESS AND CRITERIA Candidates for the prestigious award will be judged by members of the Foundation of FTA's Technical Advancement Council and scored equally in five specific areas: • Technical Achievement What was achieved? How was it achieved? Why is this believed to be an achievement? • Technical Impact on the Industry 's Future How will the product impact the industry over the course of the next 5-10 years? • Supporting Material Includes marketing materials, user manual, demo video, photos, etc. • Description of Technology A detailed statement, picture and words, or an ac- count that accurately provides a thorough representa- tion of the product. • User Testimonials A written declaration by at least 3 user companies certifying the technology's character and perfor- mance, along with the value of the technology to their process (i.e. how well it functions, return on invest- ment, increases in productivity, etc.) The competition is open to all members of the flexographic industry, regardless of FTA membership status. Joint entries are welcome if two or more organizations are involved in de- veloping an innovative technology. All entries must be specific to the flexographic industry as required by award rules. The entry deadline is March 5, 2010. The winner(s) will be notified by April and a formal award presentation will take place at FFTA's 2010 Annual Forum , May 2-5 in Las Vegas, NV. The award-winning technology will also be featured in ex- clusive articles in FLEXO Magazine---the official voice of FTA, and on www.FLEXOmag.com, as well as in press releases and on FTA's Web site. Entry fees for the 2010 Technical Innovation Award competi- tion are $500.00 for FTA Members and $1,000.00 for non-mem- bers.
