FLEXO Magazine : February 2010
www.flexography.org FEBRUARY 2010 FLEXO 11 Freiberg: Employees have chosen to do the training from home as well as in our dedicated training room. Q: Have you seen any immediate results from your initial efforts? Freiberg: Employees have remarked that they are learning new aspects of the business in general. Employees seem to be connecting the various facets of printing, which gives them extra tools to troubleshoot problems and optimize the graphics quality of the finished product. Q: What was your employees' ini- tial response to this endeavor? Positive or negative? Freiberg: The initial reaction was positive. We offered this as a way for the employees to get certification and credit for their hard work. There was some hesitation with the testing, but we have encouraged the employees by telling them that the tests are part of the learning. Employees who have taken the tests are proud of their scores. Q: What do you ultimately hope to get out of the FIRST Operator Certification program? Freiberg: We see the FIRST certifica- tion program as part of our continuous improvement initiatives, and as such, expect more proficiency from our operators; less art and more science in the printing process, which will deliver better results to our customers. Q: How will you use it to market yourself as a better printer/ converter? Freiberg: The Robinette Co. will have 100 percent FIRST-certified press opera- tors serving the food, beverage, and other industrial markets. We will have the best trained workforce comple- mented with the best assets to serve the markets in general, delivering bottom line value to our customers.
