Glatfelter recently announced that it has completed the ac- quisition of Concert Industries Corp. from Brookfield Special Situations Management Ltd., an affiliate of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. for $235 million. Concert supplies highly absorbent cellulose-based airlaid non-woven materials, used to manufacture a diverse range of consumer and industrial products for growing global end-use markets, including feminine hygiene and adult incontinence products, specialty wipes and food pads. "We are thrilled to add to the Glatfelter family of products another industry-leading global business that sells highly spe- cialized, engineered fiber-based products to niche markets," said George H. Glatfelter II, chairman and CEO. "This acqui- sition combines the strengths of two highly regarded specialty producers and will build upon our respective relationships with premier global consumer products companies." Fortunately, the fire only caused struc- tural and equipment damage and the firm is happy to say that no employees were injured during this unfortunate event. Also fortunate is Gerhardt's global connection. Within 30 minutes of the outbreak of the fire, all work that was currently in-house at Gerhardt USA was transferred over to the flexible die facility in Derby, England. This allowed the company to be able to continue providing service to its customers and to continue to operate under a business as usual atmosphere. Since the fire, Gerhardt said it has heard many rumors throughout the industry that are simply not true, such as: "Gerhardt USA is not re-opening;" "Gerhardt is going out of business;" "Gerhardt USA is having quality issues due to the fire;" and many, many others. Management maintains "These have all been created by competitors as a sales tool for them." Gerhardt USA would like to assure it's customers that it is continuing forward with the re-building of its operation in York, PA. The company asserts that it is not going out of busi- ness, it is not having any quality issues due to the fire, nor has it had any issues before the fire. Gerhardt USA would like to thank all of its customers and suppliers for their support since the fire and it looks forward to continuing to be the premier flexible die provider in the industry today.
