Established in 1990 by Printing Industries of America, and named for environmental pioneer and researcher Dr. William Schaeffer (1922--2003), the Schaeffer Award honors an individual who has made significant contributions toward environmentally sound practices in the printing industry. Dr. Schaeffer was widely known and respected for his ongoing environmental advocacy and leadership for the graphic com- munications industry. "Since joining our management team more than 13 years ago as environmental specialist, Doreen has excelled year after year as a recognized environmental expert by the flexographic printing/converting industry, the membership of the FTA, and by her professional peers representing allied associations in the graphic communications marketplace," commented FTA President Mark Cisternino.
