Home Living : April 6th 2010
6 HLF - HOME LIVING: NORTH WEST, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Some timely tips for the perfect paint job » ADVERTISING FEATURE HOMELIVING Years ago if you encountered two women talking about nails, chances are they were referring to the manicured kind. These days, they might well be debating the benefits of galvanised v stainless steel for repairing their back deck or talking about giving their tired-looking home a coat of paint. Long overlooked as remodellers and do-it-yourselfers (DIYers), more women are now picking up the power tools. While women have always played a role in remodelling choices and room design, what has shifted is that women today are taking on projects and doing them themselves. Now they realise that home improvement projects are not rocket science, and with a few easy tools and creative thinking, they can easily be done. With this thought in mind, hundreds of interested women attended a successful DIY ladies night, held by Taubmans last week. Designed by Taubmans' real-life painters and TV stars Nick Taylor and Roy Evans, the hands-on demonstration -- covering choosing and applying the right paint -- taught women some tricks of the trade. Due to the workshop's popularity, Taubmans plans to hold many more such DIY projects. The workshop taught women how to choose and apply the right paint, with step-by-step instructions and an interactive demonstration. The eager ladies brushed up on useful skills like painting architraves, gyprock walls, painting around lights, switches and door knobs, surface preparation and choosing the right equipment. Maria Starkey, a participant in the workshop, said: '''I'm sure, like me, most women make the DIY decisions at home, but they don't always have the confidence to tackle the actual job. ''Seeing real painters, live in action explaining and demonstrating the painting process step by step was very helpful. I'm no longer apprehensive about repainting my living room.'' PAINTING TIPS FROM NICK AND ROY: 1. Quality brushes and rollers will ensure even coverage 2. A low-sheen finish is great for high- traffic areas as it is easy to clean Details: taubmans.com.au Home Living gives you the opportunity to maximise your advertising dollar through placement in a selection of local newspapers that will most effectively reach your market - which means more potential leads and sales opportunites for your business.
