The pioneer, Allison Systems, pioneers the future.... Allison Systems Corporation, created by my father Thomas K. Allison, in the ‘50’s and ‘60s, developed and manu- factured about 200 ‘Allison Doctor Blade Honing and Lapping Machines’. These machines allowed pressmen to put effective and consistent working edges on strips of Swedish doctor blade steel without relying on hand tools or other crude, slow, dangerous and damaging devices available at the time. . Then, at the request of its growing body of Gravure and Flexographic printer customers, Allison Systems Inc. cre- ated its pre-finished doctor blade manufacturing operation and pioneered the technology needed to make the finest pre-finished doctor blades in the world. From its beginning, Allison Systems also pioneered blade system technology: As we learned early on, the most wonderful, “magic” doctor blade can easily produce miles of printed waste, press down time, and other very expen- sive print problems in both Gravure and Flexo unless it is mounted, aligned, actuated and controlled properly and efficiently. Our blade systems are designed to do this quickly and effectively every time. Today, Allison Systems invents, prototypes, and supplies retrofit blade systems, blade system components, and blade system operating technology as well as the right metal-based and/or non-metallic blades for each job. This can greatly improve press and press crew performance, creating the savings needed in our industry. Here are a couple of recent Allison Systems holder/chamber improvement examples: Our Engineering team custom designs prototypes of blade holders and systems to solve specific problems, and they test and prove the latest blade materials, edges and coatings as well as blade system innovations in the real world. By working closely with printers, the ‘end users’, we bring the latest technology to where it counts – and configure it so it really works. — Tom Allison, president ADVERTORIAL FLX_May10_sec1.indd 42 4/19/10 12:01 PM
