Café Borghetti Liquore Label Details on page 130 Many FTA members made strong showings at this year’s Excellence Awards competition, even among those who did not earn Best of Show prizes. In the wide web category, Coating Excellence International (CEI) and Bancroft Bag Inc. both took home four medals. Bancroft Bag received two gold awards, a silver and a bronze, while CEI earned two golds and two bronzes. Amscan Inc. and Exopack faired almost as well, each pulling in a gold medal and two silver medals. Label Technolo- gy Inc. dominated the mid web category, accepting one bronze prize and one silver prize in addition to its Best of Show. Labeltronix Inc. and McDowell Label received a lot of praise from judges, ultimately landing them each six total awards. The former stole a whopping four golds, along with a silver and a bronze. McDowell Label managed to nab a gold and a bronze, along with four silvers. Amway Corp. stood out in the paperboard category, and walked away with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal. Among the napkin entries, Paper and Design GmbH earned a silver in addition to its Best of Show, totaling half of the prizes in the category. Bennett Packaging stood out to judges of the combined corrugated category. The company snagged five prizes: three gold, two silver. Lewisburg Container Co., SS CC -Castle Rock Display Group, and Advance Packaging Corp. also made splashes, taking two awards each. In the preprinted liner- board category, SCI, a staple at FTA’s awards competitions and frequent winner, did not disappoint this year, racking up half of the total awards given: a bronze, a silver and two golds, one of which was also deemed Best of Show for the group. Packaging Technologies Inc. , another Excellence Awards name stay, earned a bronze and silver. Among envelope hopefuls, Tension Envelope Corp. received the most attention, garnering a total of six medals: three gold, one silver and one bronze. Best of Show winner Encore Wash- ington Ltd. also received two gold prizes, a silver prize and a bronze prize. MackayMitchell was recognized with a gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal. When it came to student submissions, two educational institutions stood out among the pack: Clemson University and Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School. Clemson students wowed judges with entry after entry, and ultimately walked home with an incredible two-thirds of all college-level prizes—all three gold awards, two silver medals, and a bronze honor.
