HLF - HOME LIVING: NORTH WEST, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 1 HOMELIVING ............................................ INSIDE WARM WELCOME Simple ways to beat cold SAVING TIPS Don't let bills go through the roof PRESSURE ON Cooking made easy this winter DIY DELIGHT Stripes stand out Stay warm and enjoy Janita Singh Stay warm and enjoy The cold announces the arrival of a new season -- winter. As we all get ready to rug up, keep in mind that our houses need the same attention to cope with the chill. Small changes, such as covering windows, can make a big difference. To help prevent heat loss from your home, close curtains and blinds. If you are building or renovating, consider double- glazed windows. Another simple tip is to lay rugs on bare floors. This will help reduce heat loss. Also seal all air leakages from under doors or around windows. Other sensible things to do include having your heating system checked by a licensed heating/airconditioning professional. Have any chimneys inspected and cleaned. Check gutters and clean them if necessary. Clogged gutters can result in flooding. Trim trees away from the house. Have dead trees and branches removed. Replace the batteries in smoke detectors, and check they are in working order. Check fire extinguishers, charge and replace as necessary. 1300 364 290 The Trusted Outdoor Additions Specialist PERGOLAS DECKS OPENING ROOFS CARPORTS www.pergolaland.com.au Visit our Showroom N 0
