FLEXO Magazine : June2010
FTA TODAY 70 FLEXO june 2010 www.flexography.org 70 FLEXO june 2010 www.flexography.org AssOciATiOn nEws On Friday May 7, 2010 a fire broke out in Salamanca, NY. It devastated commercial buildings, some of which were of historical significance. Luminite Products Administrative facilities were among the buildings lost. However, due to the efforts of many, Luminite Products opened it doors for business the following Monday morning in the same manner that it has for the last 84 years. We turned on the lights, powered up our manufacturing equip- ment and started the daily process of filling our customer’s orders. To say that the damage we sustained to our administrative building and some graphics art equipment was minor would be a gross understatement. Our Administration buildings are a complete loss. Thankfully, however, there was no loss of life, and our manufacturing facilities are 100 percent operational. Yes, we will have a few momentary phone issues, as new lines and other replacement communication systems are replaced. Through the efforts of many employ- ees, and all of the wonderful men and women of the Salamanca, NY Fire Department, our sales customer service and computer graphics departments have relocate to our manufacturing facilities situated only three miles away. All of the employees at Luminite wish to thank The Salamanca Fire Depart- ment. We also thank our valued custom- ers, suppliers, many of our competitors, and the FTA—all who offered their as- sistance. We sincerely appreciate your kindness and your well wishes in these trying times. In business since 1926, and as the nation’s first laser engraving company in the flexographic industry, all of us at Luminite Products Corp. are happy to be here... and able to say that we are, fully operational and here to serve your needs today. As our city reestablishes the commu- nication lines which were destroyed in the fire, you may contact us as follows: Luminite Products Corp. FFTA Brings its FiRsT Operator certification Level i course to the classroom Foundation of FTA’s TEST (Techni- cal Education Services Team) recently announced that its FIRST Operator Certification Level I course, tradition- ally offered online through its TEST Virtual Campus, will be available in a classroom format at Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN. The two-day class will be held on June 16-17 and again on September 22-23. “ We offered this class onsite dur- ing FFTA’s 2010 Annual Forum and the room was completely packed.” said Joe Tuccitto, FFTA Education Director and course instructor. “It was so well received that we decided to add this course to our seminar lineup. Plus, at- tendees will have the added benefit of hands-on press, platemaking and plate mounting demonstrations.” The course is ideal for printers/ converters, prepress trade shops and suppliers wanting to obtain the industry standard of excellence, a FIRST Opera- tor Certification. Once a student has completed Level I and has successfully passed the exam, he/she can then go on to master Levels II and III, to achieve a Press Operator, Prepress Operator, or Implementation Specialist Certification. Regardless of which designation one ultimately chooses, at the end of Level I students will: • Be able to identify the flexo print process. • Describe a flexo press, its compo- nents and functionality. • Identify the primary industry seg- ments. • Describe the types of flexo printing presses used in each segment. • Understand general laws, regula- tions and policies related to the industry. Rates for this course are $595 per FTA Member and $1,190 for each non- member. For more information and to register contact FFTA at 631-737-6020. For the Record Page 82 of FLEXO’s May issue incorrectly identified the Narrow Web, Process, Coated silver-award winning entry as submitted by Tetra Pakk Inc. The actual printer and award recipient was Labeltronix. In addition, Master Packaging Inc.’s silver-award winning We- gman’s 85 ct. Tissue box was inadvertently excluded from the list of announced winners during FTA’s Awards Banquet. Both are reprinted here for your convenience.
