Home Living : July 27th 2010
HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 1 HOMELIVING Learn from experts » ADVERTISING FEATURE One of world's leading brands in kitchen appliances has introduced an innovative, fail-proof means of choosing the perfect oven, cooktop, microwave or coffee machine. Smeg is conducting cooking classes in its Sydney showroom where those looking for a new kitchen appliance can watch the Smeg appliances in operation, taste the results and learn a lot of invaluable information. Smeg professional chef Anne Love cooks and serves about five courses, demonstrating the many unique features of the Smeg induction and gas cooktops, multifunction ovens, steam oven and compact microwave/ convection ovens. Attendees (maximum of eight) sit in front of the action and watch, ask questions and sample along the way. Seated at a long viewing table, with starched tablecloth and sleek cutlery, the attendees are served dishes by a well-versed member of the Smeg team. There are many surprises along the way: Perfect risotto can be cooked in the steam oven in just eight minutes; The light, fluffy pilaf is cooked on the low, perfectly controlled heat zone of the induction cooktop in 12 minutes; and A lime and coconut cheesecake takes 15 minutes in the steam oven. Classes are held at the Banksmeadow/ Botany showroom several times a week and are free. Menus change regularly. Details: smegappliances.com.au to book. Click on Cooking with Smeg and go to Cooking Classes. Urban Graze in Kellyville also conducts the Smeg cooking classes. As the trend continues to grow to create a ''fifth room'' outside -- an extension of the home, rather than just an outdoor space -- Mitre 10 national category manager for outdoor living, Jacki Kersting, explains how Australians are now paying more attention to style and design as opposed to pure functionality for their outdoor rooms. ''There has been an increase in outdoor heating options over the past few years as Australians look for more stylish and diverse heaters to match their outdoor space,'' Ms Kersting said. ''New designs including the volcano patio heater and the chiminea clay heater have been introduced as more stylish alternatives, and to act as a fantastic centre-piece in any outdoor room -- especially once they are lit. ''Traditional heaters have been overtaken by the gas bottle patio heaters as they are more compact, cleaner and easier to use. The tall, thin design of these heaters has also made them popular options for use in court- yards, balconies and other small spaces as they can be easily packed up or covered at the end of the season." A few tips from Ms Kersting about selecting an outdoor heater Choose a heater that best fits your outdoor room space. If you are after constant heat, try the patio pole heaters. If it's design and style you are looking for, go for a chiminea -- they are also best for cooking; Consider what fuel/power you want to use with your heater. Gas heaters obviously require a gas cylinder, while chimineas require particular fuels like briquette or red gum, so they need a little more maintenance; and Consider the size of the area you are trying to heat. Straight pole heaters are great for small spots but chimineas are best in larger areas. • Portable Gas Heaters • Gas Log Fire Places • Wood Heaters • Gas Heater Service 2264289i hls wk50 18month Payment Plan (conditions apply) • 2 x Mirror doors • Wall to wall up to 2.4m wide • 1 x Single Hanging space • 1 x Draw unit (4 draws) + 3 shelving •1xShoerack • 1 x Double hanging space • 3 x mirror doors •Walltowallupto 3.6m wide Bankstown 9786 0395e Surcharge applies to Campbelltown area Wally's Wardrobe World 2173633i hlc wk49 up to 2.4m wide up to 3.6m wide 2.4m high 2.4m high $570 inc GST $870 inc GST WWW.HALFPRICESHUTTERS.COM.AU CALL 13 61 21 AND SAVE CALL 13 61 21 AND SAVE This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion, special offer or coupon. $600 off Half Price Shutters retail price list. *Available to approved customers only.
