ASSoCIATIoN NewS Flexometer Q2 Shows Positive Business Trends The second quarter results of the 2010 Flexometer have indicated overall positive trends in the health of the flexo industry. The results of the initial survey, which encompassed the first quarter of 2010, were posted in the June 2010 issue of FLEXO Magazine. The most notable changes between the first two quarters of the year were the trends in employment, sales and overall business observed by flexo printer mem- bers in the U.S . and Canada. A comparison of the Q1 and Q2 results for staffing showed that while in Q1 74.7 percent of facilities remained steady or hired additional employees, nearly 89 percent did so in Q2. And, while in Q1 52.3 percent stated they were planning on hiring addition staff in the near future, in Q2 nearly 56.5 per- cent anticipate hiring. When asked to compare sales trends to the same quarter a year ago, the picture looks brighter. In Q 1, 23.6 percent of businesses reported a decrease and 57.4 percent an in- crease. For Q2, however, 15.2 percent reported a decrease, while nearly 72 percent reported an increase in sales com- pared to Q2 2009. Finally, the overall business trends observed by flexo print- ers have also improved in Q2. In Q1, 18.0 percent reported a decrease and 50.8 percent an increase. While in Q2, the re- sults show a 6.5 percent decrease and 67.4 percent increase. The third quarter survey will be distributed in mid-Septem- ber for a response by the end of the month. We encourage facilities to contribute to the Flexometer to help us present an accurate reflection of the state of the flexo printing industry. 12 FLeXo August 2010 www.flexography.org 0.0 5.0 10.0 15.0 20.0 25.0 30.0 35.0 40.0 45.0 50.0 -‐ 2 5 or less -‐ 1 5 to -‐ 24 -‐ 10 to -‐ 14 -‐ 5 to -‐9 0 to -‐4 stable 0 to 4 5 to 9 10 to 14 15 to 24 25 or more Response (percent) Employment Change (percent) Trends in Employment Level During Last Three Months Q1 Q2 FLeXo Quality Control We believe in continuous improvement and quality con- trol.
