FLEXO Magazine : August 2010
Bobst Group North America, Inc. 13325 South Point Blvd., Suite 400, Charlotte, NC 28273 Tel: 704 587 2450 A sale-able product from the first impression. Because smartGPS is able to set-up the press without the need for the press to be running, product is near perfect from the very start. Perfectly consistent results are achieved regardless of shift, time of day or ambient conditions. The system eliminates the danger of plate damage from over-impression and, because it's computer-based, it requires no operator input or even target marks on the plates. New economies and new markets. The smartGPS system works with any flexo-printable substrate including reflective materials. It also works with any color of ink or coating, including clear varnishes and lacquers. Combine these capabilities with the tremendous savings over the waste of conventional set-ups and it's easy to see how whole new markets and new opportunities are opened for flexo printing. A smarter system for the whole press, too. As a smart instrument for automated set-up, smartGPS is a true quality control system for eliminating error and achieving superior results. The off-line mounter generates a quality report during the scanning process on the combined package enabling operators to detect faults on new plates before they even go into the press. The smartGPS computer can also provide reports on the diameter and TIR (total indicated runout) of bridge sleeves, intermediate mandrels as well as anilox rolls. Plates are mated to sleeves offline as the computer encodes registra- tion, impression and other settings into an RFID chip. This information is transferred to the press when the plate is mounted. The FTA recognized smartGPS as the Flexographic Technical Innovation for 2010.
