FLEXO Magazine : September 2010
CONFERENCE AGENDA MONDAy, NOvEMbER 8 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm REGISTRATION 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm COLOR SUCCESS BEFORE GETTING TO PRESS Make sure your color is accurate before ever turning on the press. Using samples from flexographic presses and the new Epson WT7900, Roy Bohnen (Epson America) will guide attendees through some of the unique aspects of consistently measuring color on film substrates to verify proof and spot color accuracy. Many of today’s popular color verification tools will be reviewed. Following, Jim Raffel (ColorMetrix Technologies) will enlighten attendees on how to better sleep at night knowing that the right color is being used in any given job. Learn what the advantages of using a centralized color database are, so that the exact same color information is made available to brand owners, prepress vendors, printers and ink suppliers. Discover how this kind of system will earn significant reductions in waste, and contribute to a more sustainable workflow. 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm RECEPTION & TABLETOP EXHIBITION TuEsDAy, NOvEMbER 9 7:00 am – 8:00 am BREAKFAST & TABLETOP EXHIBITION 8:00 am – 10:30 am THE GREAT FLEXO DIGITAL PLATE DEBATE There are many options when it comes to digital plates, especially with many of the new technologies. How do they compare against each other? Do they really print like offset as the marketing materials suggest? Will you still have to implement dot gain or tone curves? What are the true advantages to a flat top dot in flexo? Join us for an insightful, rather lively, panel discussion with representatives from the world’s leading flexographic digital plate/platemaking suppliers, including: Asahi Photoproducts, DuPont Packaging Graphics, Eastman Kodak Company, EskoArtwork, Flint Group, MacDermid Printing Solutions and Toyobo, Inc. This open forum will have a ‘relaxed’ non-commercialism policy, but without all the marketing ‘fluff’ for you to wade though. Attend and decide for yourself! 10:30 am – 11:00 am REFRESHMENT BREAK & TABLETOP EXHIBITION 11:00 am – 12:00 pm SUSTAINABILITY FROM THE PRINTER’S PERSPECTIVE Walmart, Unilever, and Procter & Gamble have all gone public with strong sustainability programs that have impacted the procurement practices of these CPC giants. As a key link in the supply chain, flexographic printers must be prepared to validate their sustainability efforts. The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership offers the sole sustainability certification for the entire graphic communications industry. This session will cover key requirements to become SGP certified and how the program has benefited a leading package printer. 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm LUNCH & TABLETOP EXHIBITION FREEPre-conferenceSession FallCon10_FLEXOBrochure_mech.indd 3 9/2/10 12:33 AM 1:00 pm – 2:45 pm IMPACTING AN INDUSTRY – THE FLEXO QUALITY CONSORTIUM Throughout the years, the Flexo Quality Consortium (FQC) has been the driving force behind many industry advancements. As a standing committee of FFTA, the FQC has been providing the industry with a better understanding of the factors that influence the productivity and quality of the flexographic printing process. The FQC could not achieve this without the dedication of many industry volunteers. This session will be dedicated to hearing from and interacting with a handful of these volunteers, based on the projects that they have worked on, during the past year. 2:45 pm – 3:15 pm REFRESHMENT BREAK & TABLETOP EXHIBITION 3:15 pm – 5:00 pm VOICE OF THE INDUSTRY: THE BEST OF FLEXO MAGAZINE FLEXO Magazine strives to bring you the best and most poignant technical information for flexographic printers/converters. This session will sample some of the most innovative features published in the past two years. Hear from the authors themselves and learn what new and exciting projects FLEXO is working on for the coming months. 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm RECEPTION & TABLETOP EXHIBITION Wednesday, november 10 7:00 am – 8:00 am BREAKFAST 8:00 am – 9:45 am PROCESS IMPROVEMENT – BEST PRACTICES FIRST Join us as we investigate the process behind choosing the right anilox roll for spot and combo printing. You’ll be surprised to learn of minor nuances that can have a real impact on results, and how you can take the correct steps to minimize variables and predict success before ever going to press. Plus we’ll explore how new developments in color management technology allow for more flexible (and accurate) proofing of color data, regardless of the input/ output devices being used in the workflow. We’ll wrap up the session with an account of how one label and flexible packaging converter, looking to improve its operational efficiencies, utilized various process improvement initiatives including those outlined in FIRST, to improve productivity and increase standardization. 9:45 am – 10:15 am REFRESHMENT BREAK 10:15 am – 12:00 pm COLOR CONSISTENCY FOR PACKAGING – FIRST AND WORLDWIDE STANDARDS Need help navigating through ISO Standards for graphic technology? How do they relate back to FIRST? What are the most important customer expectations for color accuracy and consistency? Attend this session and learn why worldwide standards are so important, not only through the eyes of the customer, but to everyone in the supply chain. You will leave with a virtual step- by-step guide to utilizing global standards to comply with FIRST. Visit www.flexography.org for all the latest details.
