FFTA Forum 2011: Setting the Pace for Flexo Packaging Excellence! Foundation of FTA and its mem- bers are revving their engines and FFTA Forum 2011. “ Forum 2011: Setting the Pace for Flexo Packag- ing Excellence” will be the fundamental premise of the conference, which will be staged on May 1-4 at the brand new JW Marriott Hotel & Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN. The pre-eminent event in the flexo- graphic printing and converting trade, which earlier this year welcomed a record number of printers/converters and consumer product companies, will be chaired by industry veterans Mark Coffman of Dixie Graphics and Randy Butler of Printpack Inc. “Building on what was accomplished at Forum 2010 in Las Vegas, we race on toward the goal of achieving Flexo Pack- aging Excellence,” said Coffman. “ T he industry leaders who have stepped up to serve on the Forum Committee will help show attendees how to set the pace. So, ladies and gentlemen, start your engines and make your plans to race to Indianapolis for Forum 2011!” “ Forum 2011 is shaping up to be an action-packed, fast-paced event teeming with industry knowledge and practical application. Make your plans early to attend what promises to be an exciting start-to-finish Forum in India- napolis,” added Butler. The Forum 2011 agenda includes sessions on Emerging Trends & New Tech- nologies, FIRST (Flexographic Im- age Reproduction Specifications and Tolerances), FQC (Flexo Quality Consortium), Inks and Substrates, Lean Manufactur- ing (a new addi- tion to the lineup), Prepress, and Sustainability. To Everything... Turn, Turn, Turn As was introduced in last month’s Association News, the long-standing En- gaging Ideas column that has appeared in FLEXO Magazine for the past 10 years seems to have pretty much run its course. When it was introduced back in 2001, as Mark Cisternino took over the presidency of the Association, the stated goal was to generate a dialogue between the man- agement team and the FTA membership on key critical issues facing the organiza- tion and flexo industry. For a number of magazine issues and years, that dialogue was frequent and lively. The column was an excellent avenue for the two-way exchange of... well...engaging ideas. But, like anything that’s been around for a while, there comes a time when the lifecycle curve flattens out and interest wanes in the product as it currently exists. And that’s OK in the eyes of Cisternino! In con- templating the transition, he said, “The column had a good run. Now it’s time to look at new options for engaging the membership in discussion and address- ing the important issues that companies are facing on a day-to-day basis.” The FTA management team has some thoughts on a new path to take, but we’d also like to hear from our constituency. So, as has been the case in most of the past 120 issues of FLEXO, your Engaging Ideas are being sought to help reformulate the product. Noth- ing is out of the question. Shoot your thoughts to email@example.com. Your input is very much welcome! www.flexography.org september 2010 FLEXO 77 FFTA is cur- rently accept- ing abstracts pertaining to any of these seven sessions between now and Sept. 10, 2010.
