Industry Indicators ness of a human hair. With a thinner profile, ThinStream yields 17 percent more labels per roll and reduces liner waste. The PET liner material has a caliper of 12-micron/0.48mil, which is approximately 50 percent thinner than the lowest caliper 24-micron/0.92mil material used with conventional diecut- ting technology. ThinStream diecutting employs a delam/relam process, a special web control system and chilled dies, so the liner is never touched. It can diecut labels at high speeds with excel- lent quality and registration control. The ThinStream diecutting head eliminates die strikes and web breaks for uninter- rupted productivity. Avery Dennison’s next generation of PS adhesives improve the no-label look with better water whitening resistance, and are ideal for demanding applica- tions that include high-speed convert- ing and high-impact package designs necessary for success in the beer, bev- erage, food, and home and personal care segments. The next generation adhesives platform delivers improved liner release balance by enabling high-speed dis- pensing of up to 1,000 bottles per minute and converting speeds of up to 600 feet per minute. They also feature a reduc- tion of “ooze,” meaning less machine downtime and fewer labeling failures. AVT: Full RAnge oF SoluTionS AVT demonstrated its full range of 100 percent automatic inspection, quality assurance and remote ink control solu- tions with new capabilities for the labels and narrow web market in its, as well as in its partners’, booths. A few of the highlights presented by AVT at the show were the PrintVision/He- lios II 100 percent automatic inspection system, WorkFlow Link solution providing the perfect link between the press and rewinders, and the Microcolor/Mercury digital remote ink control for label and narrow web applications. Shown for the first time was the new AVT mobile application on Apple’s iPhone. Called iPrint, the app enables AVT customers to get immediate information from the production floor directly to their iPhones, regardless of where they are. This application is compatible with iPod Touch and the new iPad. BST: CompleTe 100 peRCenT inSpeCTion And WoRkFloW SoluTion At Labelexpo Americas, BST Inter- national showcased its Shark LEX 100 percent inspection systems and its Lector WorkFlow Module. Together, they provide a comprehensive solution for inspecting print quality and managing throughput from press to customer. Two models of the Shark are avail- able (1000 and 4000), suitable for use on rewinders or narrow web presses to 22in. (560mm). Both can be used on a wide range of substrates, including reflective materials. Shark LEX systems will identify both random and repeat- ing defects as small as 0.05mm2, which includes missing print, fill-in, splash, spots, mis-register, hickeys, dirty print, web crease, haze, smudges, streaks, hairs, die-cut variations and incorrect matrix removal. They are suitable for use to speeds of 1200fpm, making them an extremely effective tool for managing print quality on press. CSAT: digiTAl inkjeT pReSS CSAT America LLC introduced its model ITS 600 digital label printer to the North American market at Labelexpo. The model ITS 600 had been shown in Brussels at Labelexpo Europe last fall. The ITS 600 label printer incorporates drop on demand technology providing fast, high quality on demand printing. It prints in full color at speeds up to 150fpm, with true 600dpi and 2pt. fonts on paper, films and foils with superior ink adherence and durability. Economi- cal and environmentally friendly, the LED UV curing results in low energy consumption. DOD technology maxi- mizes ink use and minimizes wasted ink.
