FTA TODAY FQC Update form to this standard, and whether they need to be toned to meet the targets. Initial analysis has been completed and results will be presented at the Fall Conference. Some issues were identi- fied with the standard. The preliminary information has been forwarded to our representatives to ISO, Danny Rich and Steve Smiley. The 2846/5 standard is currently undergoing review. Dataset Development For IDeallIanCe® G7 CharaCterIzatIon The value of near-neutral density characterization has been recognized for some time. It has enjoyed a renewed interest through the G7 characterization process. The IdeAlliance process is one such system. To support our members who were interested in the use of this system, experiments have been per- formed to develop reference datasets for some flexo areas to demonstrate the ability to produce print under these con- ditions. This would avoid attempting to classify all methods under the capabili- ties of other print platforms. There will not be a presentation of the dataset projects at the Fall Conference, but some members will be on hand to discuss answer questions. Narrow Web Dataset. Project Leader: Sean Oetjen, Dunwoody Col- lege of Technology. A first round of tests was completed and reported on at Forum 2010 based on a limited number of runs. Additional tests have been run and are scheduled to be run on different machines with different inks to develop a complete dataset. The final report will be presented at Forum 2011 and published. The information will also be officially provided to CGATs. Wide Web Dataset. Project Leader: Mark Mazur, DuPont Packaging Graph- ics. There has been renewed interest in characterizations recently. The team is still soliciting characterization data with ISO2846/5 certified inks for inclusion in the dataset. anIlox volUme measUrement methoDs Project Leader: Dan Reilly, Flint Group There are a number of methods for measuring anilox volume. It would be helpful to the industry if the variance in the various methods. This project is to identify the gage R&R results for six of the most commonly used anilox mea- surement techniques. The experiment was carried out at Clemson University. The data is being compiled for statisti- cal analysis. A full report will be made at Forum 2011. extenDeD GamUt Color seleCtIon Project Leader: Danny Rich, Sun Chemical Extended gamut printing (a.k.a . ex- panded gamut printing) is becoming of greater interest in the industry. The first part of this project was a survey to deter- mine interest in extended gamut, what would be helpful to the industry, and what is currently being done in a brief overview. It was reported at Forum 2010 that the respondents did see it increas- ing in importance, and that one of the is- sues was the lack of a common color set. The project is beginning to go into the experimental phase to identify the most effective overall color selections.
