HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, November 9, 2010 1 A colourful past » ADVERTISING FEATURE HOMELIVING ..................................... The 2011 Dulux Colour Awards celebrate the 25th anniversary of this prestigious industry event, supporting and acknowledging the creative efforts and inspired use of colour by the best of Australia and the South Pacific's architects, specifiers, designers and students. Colour planning and communication manager at Dulux, Andrea Lucena-Orr, said colour was a very persuasive and powerful element of the designers tool bag, and with the ways they use it and the colour trends changing every year. Judged by a panel of experts in the field, the Dulux Colour Awards offer members of the design community an opportunity to showcase their best work with colour and its impact on all aspects of spatial design. The Dulux Colour Awards are now open for entries in six categories: Residential Exterior, Residential Interior, Commercial Exterior, Commercial Interior, Sustainable Interior and Student category. Each category winner receives $1500 in prize money and a trophy. Entries close February 8, 2011. Details: dulux.com.au/colourawards Warm hues beat blues Are you looking to remodel your home, but working with a tight budget? One of the easiest ways to enhance the decor or just give a room a quick facelift is painting. These days painting doesn't stop at the walls - you can also paint furniture for a new look that won't burn a hole in your pocket. The possibilities are only constrained by your imagination. According to the Dulux Colour Forecast, bold hues of orange and yellow are set to shine as the biggest colour trend for 2011. Experts are predicting warming tones of yellow and orange as a key antidote to the shadows cast by the global financial crisis. Dulux's colour forecaster Andrea Lucena-Orr says the global mood influences our colour selections. ''The need for a renewed reassurance, harmony and tranquillity in an unstable economic climate are mirrored by the desire for freedom, revival and bold abandon,'' she says. The spectrum of yellow tones goes from bold, bright sunshine and canary yellows that spell optimism, renewed vitality and revival, to deep reassuring mustards and natural, earthy oranges. Nostalgic creamier tones evoke comforting images of history and the past while light and lemony hues create a feeling of space and freedom from the confines of daily struggles. Founder and CEO of Paris company Colour & Marketing Elisabeth Condemine says yellow is making a comeback after 20 years of being unfashionable. Details: dulux.com.au 40% 50% 60% OFF!
