Home Living : November 23rd 2010
HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 7 Ideas for littlies Christmas isn't Christmas without a few home-made decorations. Gift bags: Buy plain bags and decorate them using used wrapping paper, glitter and ribbon. Salt dough ornaments: Mix 1 cup of salt with 4 cups of plain flour. Add 1 cup of water to form a stiff dough, adding more flour if it's too sticky. Roll out and cut into Christmas shapes using biscuit cutters. Make a hole, then bake in a low oven for an hour. When cooked, paint them, adding glitter and sparkle. Thread ribbon through the hole and hang. Jingle bells tree ornament: Thread bells on a piece of string. Tie the ends and loop a ribbon through so the ornament can be tied onto the tree. Jewelled bauble: Take a plain bauble and glue with jewels, glitter or sequins. Garlands: Cut a length of string, twine or craft wire and thread with beads. Tie the ends and make a ribbon loop to hang. You could also use pasta, or thread popcorn, using a large needle and cotton thread. ...................................... HOMELIVING » ADVERTISING FEATURE Neutral for a new look As we get closer to the end of the year, many of us are considering a little home renovation. But where to start? Painting is the most obvious and inexpensive way to give your home a new look without breaking the bank. While some of us are confident in our ability to choose the right colours, just as many find the process daunting. That's where a paint company such as Taubmans can help. Recent research by Taubmans Colour Studio has shown that neutral palettes are the preferred colour choices for 98 per cent of all living areas. But it's not all cream and off- white. Lighter walls are being swapped for a more daring colour palette, including shades such as Coffee Capers, Athena and Chocolate Shake to help create a more calming and relaxing mood. According to Taubmans colour consultant Zina Heard the feature wall introduced home decorators to colour and now they're taking over the whole room. ''A stronger colour on walls creates a real feeling of personality and pulls the room together,'' she says. It seems neutrals are here to stay, so it's important to not only choose the right colour, but a paint that is going to last. Taubmans Endure has been engineered with Nanoguard and has an interlocking molecular structure that creates a protective shield.
