Home Living : December 7th 2010
HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, December 7, 2010 3 That's a wrap then HOMELIVING Part of the pleasure of a present is the wrapping and this Christmas, why not make that wrapping the star attraction? It's a great way to get even more out of your gift giving and receiving -- and a chance to help the environment. Instead of buying new paper and gift tags, there are lots of ways to get a little more creative. * Try wrapping presents in tea towels, pretty scarves, a funky T-shirt, cushion covers or a fabric shopping bag. That way, the recipient gets two gifts in one. * Newspapers, comics, leftover wallpaper, sheet music and maps provide a good read after the pressie has been undone. * Secure gift bags with cute hair ties and ribbons, recycled twine, a string of beads or a tape measure. * Brown paper and brown paper bags can be dressed up with stamps, glue and glitter or stickers and cut-outs. * Banana leaves, strands of ivy, scraps of textured cardboard, dried flowers, sticks of cinnamon, star anise and whole nutmeg all add texture and taste to your presents. * Recycle plain boxes of all sizes and give them a fresh new life with a coat of paint and a pretty ribbon or string. * Use some of those pieces of fabric that have been collecting dust in the cupboard to make simple bags or purses. Add a drawstring tie at the top and it's not just pretty, it's useful. * If you have a large present and several pieces of paper that aren't quite big enough to wrap the present, try layering them for a stylish look. * Recycled crepe paper, tissue paper, Cellophane and even a leftover twist of organza or tulle tied with a satin ribbon all make a pretty picture. www.waratahwardrobes.com.au FACTORY & SHOWROOM Unit 1, 183-185 McCredie Rd, Guildford 9632 5444 Lic.
