HLW - HOME LIVING: WEST, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 1 HOMELIVING More than just a good grilling » ADVERTISING FEATURE WITH outdoor entertaining being a quintessential part of the Australian lifestyle, Electrolux has launched the Electrolux E:Volution Barbecue, just in time for the festive season and school holidays. Electrolux Senior Design Manager Asia Pacific Scott King said most Australians were barbecuing at least two to three times a week at this time of year. To support this trend, the humble barbecue has evolved to deliver the same level of sophistication as we expect from our indoor kitchen appliances. A premium barbecue is a worthwhile investment. Chef, author and barbecue expert Ben ODonoghue encourages all Aussies to be more adventurous with their barbecue cooking this season and to make the most of the technology offered by today's premium barbecues. ''Hosting a barbecue doesn't automatically mean sausages and steak should be on the menu,'' Mr ODonoghue said. ''To impress guests at your next barbecue, experiment with different cuisines, styles and techniques to deliver a memorable meal. ODonoghue's top tips: Keep it simple and do it well Choose one major protein and accompanying vegetables or salads. Preparation and timing is the key to a successful barbecue, so don't try to do too many things at once. Add a theme This can make your barbecue a really memorable and unique occasion. Direct vs indirect grilling Certain cuts of meat are better for specific styles of barbecuing. Indirect grilling is designed for larger or tougher foods that need to be slow-cooked, such as ribs or whole chickens, where the meat is placed next to the hot burners and the hood closed. Do it all from the barbecue Premium barbecues come with many cooking options such as wok side burners, roasting hoods and warming racks so you can cook your entire meal from the barbecue. What to look for in a barbecue Look for size and style to suit your outdoor space, stainless steel exterior for the best durability, variety of cooking style options and split grills for ease of cleaning.
