Home Living : January 11th 2011
HLF - HOME LIVING: NORTH WEST, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 3 Make a plan, then sort and store HOMELIVING Once you go past the festivity, it's important to start getting organised for the year ahead. Here are some easy projects to put you on track for a better 2011. 1 Take an afternoon to fix up the inside of your bathroom cupboards. Restore order behind the mirror by grouping make-up and other items in stackable boxes and lipstick holders. If your bathroom or shower needs more storage space, add it with a caddy. Suction pads allow for simple, drill-free installation. 2 Summer is the perfect time to pack away all our winter clothes. Invest in space bags that offer great protection against dirt, bugs, moisture and odours. 3 Create an organisation station for your kids. It should include an area for unpacking school bags, a spot to organise homework and a homework desk with stationery and books. Storage in this area can be better organised with storage tubs and different-sized baskets. 4 Where is the first place you put everything without a home? The garage! Set aside a weekend and indulge in a garage makeover. Having everything stored and clearly labelled will save you time and effort. This is especially true for those with an accumulation of sporting equipment. Think laterally too -- a jewellery holder is great for small hardware like nails, screws, washers etc. 5 Properly store your shoes and boots. The easiest and quickest way to do this is getting some clear storage boxes. 6 Fix up your car clutter. A storage solution in the boot makes transporting things much safer, while a litter bag fixed to the back seat of the car is perfect for collecting rubbish. 7 Make a gardening shelf to store everything you need in one place. For an apartment dweller this shouldn't take long, but if you have a park-like garden, it could be a whole shed that needs fitting. Remember, as with any of the tasks, start by making a plan, then sort and store.
