INDUSTRY INDICATORS Color at the Core PIA Color Management Conference Tackles Technologies, Focuses on FIRST By Christian R. Bonawandt They debated standards, examined methods of produc- ing consistent spot colors, and discussed obstacles to implementation. FIRST took center stage in multiple sessions, with flexographers and package printers represent- ing a sizable portion of the 200+ attendees and presenters who converged on Phoenix, AZ for Printing Industries of America’s annual Color Management Conference Dec. 4 -7 , which was co-sponsored by FTA. Association members were represented in force, both as presenters and attendees. Joe Tuccitto of FFTA and Cori Dev- lin of DuPont teamed up to preach the values of FIRST. Print- ers/converters also heard from long-time FIRST advocates Kevin Chop of Diageo N.A. and Steve Smiley of Vertis Inc. DRINK TO THAT! Bridging the gap between customer and supplier, E & J Gallo Winery is a rare breed. As keynote speaker on Sunday, Dec. 6 , Frank Windgassen, production director for creative services, addressed the company ’s efforts to bring its pack- aging and label printing in-house.
