FLEXO Magazine : April 2011
17 8:00am - 10:00am Operational Excellence is when the printer’s system of accumulated production processes (pre-production, pre-printing, printing, and post-printing), are meeting design and intent, thereby running “on all cylinders.” To achieve Operational Excellence, printers must apply a focused methodology based on the Japanese automotive industry’s Lean manufacturing model. The aim of Lean manufacturing is the systematic identification and elimination of all forms of waste and non value-added activities. Learn how methodically applying Lean principles brings victory on the war on waste and leads to first-rate production practices, standardized methods, and optimized processes. This session will showcase Lean thinking and applications as key components in Operational Excellence. Session Chairs: Jim Workman, Printing Industries of America & Dan Doherty, Prairie State Group Leading in Lean Environment This topic will present a dialogue on “what is lean”, the importance of a vision and the cultural challenges associated with a lean transformation. There will also be a brief overview of PCMC’s lean/cultural transformation since 2004 and the sharing of our key learnings.
