FLEXO Magazine : June 2011
FORUM 2011 SETTING THE PACE FOR FLEXO PACKAGING EXCELLENCE FTA TODAY Phenomenal!” “Fantastic!” “Best event in years!” “Print- ers were everywhere.” “Impressive. ” Heavy foot-traffic, extensive dialogue, crowded session rooms and exhibit aisles, a sold-out trade floor—by all indications, the Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association’s 2011 An- nual Forum at the JW Marriott and Indianapolis Convention Center May 1-4 was a stunning success. This year ’s Forum captured the attention of more than 1,600 package printers and business partners, whose feedback attests to the myriad ways the sessions and exhibits exceeded their expectations. Attendance and participation shattered long-standing records, raising the bar for future meetings. Speakers packed the sessions with news of innovative technologies, reports of work in progress and calls for pro- cess controls and standardized practices. Attendees stood shoulder to shoulder as they scrutinized award-winning print jobs; and conference rooms, hallways and the INFO*FLEX exhibit floor buzzed with networking activity. In the end, Flexographic Technical Association’s (FTA’s) Forum Committee, led by Mark Coffman of Dixie Graphics and Randy Butler of Printpack, stood confident that the 2011 Forum lived up to its theme, “Setting the Pace for Flexo Pack- aging Excellence,” in this, the Circle City at the Crossroads of America. In fact, attendees could be overheard making plans for the 2012 Forum and INFO*FLEX. Exhibit sales are already tracking better than 70 percent. FIELD VIEW Forum attendees were quick to share their impressions of the sessions and INFO*FLEX. A sampling of the reviews dem- onstrates enthusiasm and appreciation for everything from the content to the networking opportunities to the responsive- ness of FTA staff. Even the food received kudos. Bill Twomey of Calumet Carton in South Holland, IL , offered a new member’s perspective. “Being a first-year member of FTA, I went to the Forum and INFO*FLEX not knowing what to expect. I wanted to gather information and learn more about the process, which I did,” he said. “ What I did not expect was how eager everyone would be to help us in our new adven- ture. The people were outstanding and very eager to offer information and guidance to help us get started. I have been a member of other organizations in the printing industry and FTA is by far the best experience I have had to date.” Mark Johnson, of FLXON in Charlotte, NC noticed the crowds. “INFO*FLEX 2011 was attended by more custom- 10 FLEXO June 2011 www.flexography.org A Grand Affair • Record-breaking attendance with more than 1,600 package printers and their business partners. • Seven sessions packed with news of cutting-edge technology and innovative techniques. • Sold-out INFO*FLEX show floor. • Save the date for Forum 2012: March 18-21 in San Antonio, TX. “ Setting the Pace for Flexo Packaging Excellence FFTA 2011 Forum Recap
