HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, June 21, 2011 1 HOMELIVING ............................................ INSIDE IDEAL IDEAS Smart buys of the season BLOOMING TIMES Cool tips for gardening LAUNDRY WISE Hints for fabric care SOLAR SAFETY Do your homework Janita Singh You can count on additions Making small changes in the house and outdoors not only adds comfort but value. Architect body Archicentre says adding a bedroom is the quickest way to increase the value of a two-bedroom humble home in a suburb. This could lift the value of the home immediately into a new price bracket with the potential to add another $50-$60,000. If you're planning on making any changes or additions to the house this season, do your homework. Careful planning before you start any home project will minimise disasters. Make notes, decide on the look. Keep a file of what you like, with photographs and clippings from newspapers and magazines to see what you want achieved. Compile a wish list with costing. You might be surprised to find you can rearrange the existing space rather than adding an expensive extension. And if in doubt, ask an expert. Hiring a designer for a renovation or just a small addition to the house could be the best thing you do. Even if you think you know what you want, the expert will help make your renovation as comfortable as possible.
