Home Living : August 2nd 2011
HLC - HOME LIVING: CENTRAL, Tuesday, August 2, 2011 1 Getting back into swim of things Keep up the good work ... your car needs regular servicing and so does your swimming pool. Getting your pool in shape for the warmer months is crucial and it is easier than you think. Swimart's national manager Chris Fitzmaurice says having a pristine pool now means you can be ready for fun times on the first warm day without eating into relaxation time. ''Just like your car needs regular servicing, so too does your swimming pool,'' he said. ''While it's easy to look after your pool if you have adequate tools, equipment and a basic knowledge of water chemistry, the biggest challenge is that most people think clear water is clean water -- and that's not always the case. ''Most pool owners don't realise that, on a sunny day, up to 95 per cent of chlorine in the pool can be lost into the atmosphere in as little as three and a half hours.'' Chris said chemicals, windblown debris, heat and storms, contaminants and usage constantly changed water conditions. When properly maintained, the pool water should be fresh, clear and sparkling. The primary reason pool and spa water needs sanitising is to stop swimmers being sick. Untreated water is perfect for bacteria to grow in. Bacteria comes mainly from swimmers but also via top-up water and debris such as leaves and grass. However, bacteria are easily treated by regularly adding a sanitiser -- usually chlorine -- then filtering to remove dead bacteria. Regularly monitor water quality, including chlorine, even if you have an automatic dosing system or a saltwater chlorinator. Other things to check are water clarity, pH, total alkalinity and balance. HOMELIVING How to keep the sparkle in your pool water Swimart's top tips for spring: Thoroughly clean the pool, vacuum walls and floor; Ensure the pump is working and get a licensed technician to do a pool equipment service; Check fittings; check for leaks; check chlorine and pH levels; Empty the skimmer basket when full and occasionally check that the water level is halfway up the skimmer box opening; Turn on pool lights at least 30 minutes a week to stop moisture in the lights and wiring. Summer: Operate filtration system six to eight hours a day and check sanitiser levels regularly; Check pH every two days and total alkalinity weekly; Clean skimmer basket and hair and lint pot basket weekly; Take a water sample to a pool shop for checking every fortnight. +PZWSH` 2P[JOLUZ >HU[LK VM UVYTHS WYPJLZ Kitcheners Kitchens has a great range of EUDQG QHZ NLWFKHQ ÀQLVKHV DQG GHVLJQV We need clients with homes in your area to ´VKRZ WKHP RIIμ :H OO QHHG WR WDNH SKRWRV of your new kitchen for our brochure when LW V LQVWDOOHG ,W V FKHDSHU WKDQ EXLOGLQJ D VHW DQG LW ORRNV EHWWHU LQ D UHDO KRPH :H PD\ DOVR QHHG \RXU WHVWLPRQLDO ZKHQ FRPSOHWHG *HSS UV^ OYZ MVY H MYLL KLZPNU HUK X\V[L VY ]PZP[ ^^^ RP[JOLULYZ JVT H\ ¸;Y\Z[ 2P[JOLULYZ MVY (\Z[YHSPH»Z ILZ[ J\Z[VT THKL RP[JOLUZ¹ /\L` Kitcheners Kitchens made just for youTM ® )RU NLWFKHQV ZLWK FDELQHWU\ YDOXHG RYHU H[ JODVV VSODVKEDFNV VWRQH EHQFKWRSV WUDGH ZRUNV 'HSRVLW UHTXLUHG &DQ W EH XVHG LQ FRQMXQFWLRQ ZLWK DQ\ RWKHU RIIHU +$SSURYHG DSSOLFDQWV VHOHFWHG SURGXFWV RQO\ )HHV FKDUJHV FRQGLWLRQV DSSO\ 05;,9,:; -9,, -05(5*, (=(03()3, 73<: /<99@ :;90*;3@ 3040;,+ 6--,9 5/9 Packard Avenue, Castle Hill www.shuttersaustralia.com.au Call 8858-0967 6\GQH\ &HQWUDO &RDVW %OXH 0RXQWDLQV Recieve $30 cash back with Stock Fabric 5DQJH RI 5ROOHU %OLQGV DQG Receive $100 cash back on our External Sunscreens, Custom made in our Castle Hill factory.
