But, before you know it, we will be getting ready for more pleasant weather. To get the most out of your pool, start preparing now. The simplest way to get ready for the swimming season is to hire a pool service but it's easy to do it yourself -- and save money. If you've done your regular pool maintenance during winter you won't have much to worry about. If not, a thorough cleaning and checking is essential. Simple things to get started on include cleaning around the pool. Prune trees and hedges that may have become overgrown in the past few months and re-pot or re-plant some fuss-free plants. Clean the cover of the swimming pool, then open the filter box to check its condition. Inspect, remove and replace plugs, check the filter and pump, look at fixtures, check for cracks and test the condition of the water. Swimart's Chris Fitzmaurice says a pool needs regular servicing to keep it running smoothly. This week in Home Living we give you a handy guide on preparing pools, tips on getting it right, trends, water features and safety tips.
