In economic terms, efficiency is the relationship between the results obtained (profits, goals fulfilled, products, etc.) and the resources used (man- hours, capital invested, raw materials, etc.) . If we search for the connection between the two terms, we find that efficiency in productivity is achieved by applying new concepts to get the same results in less time. For a flexographic press manufacturer, the connection between these two words becomes a philosophy, which is to shape solutions that help customers. This philosophy is dedi- cated to developing new technologically integrated products that deliver competitive advantages. With efficiency as the driving force, a new class of flexo- graphic presses has hit the market. The F2FLEXOEFFICIEN- CY and F4FLEXOEFFICIENCY, made by Comexi, incorporate requirements that, as a general rule, improve efficiency and solidity (stability and reproducibility) in short, medium and long runs. In addition, with improvements made to ergonom- ics, presses today take efficiency to its purest state. MAINTENANCE MADE EASY One of the hardest challenges involved in efficiency is maintaining it over time, or in other words, in daily produc- tion throughout the life of the press. It has been proven that productivity decreases with time, thus they are inversely proportional. This concept seems contradictory, keeping in mind that the longer a machine has been around, the more experience printers and assistants have handling it. The real situation is that the longer a machine has been running, the more inefficiencies appear in changeovers (increased time). Also, the speed of runs decreases. This is mainly due to poor maintenance. That’s why today ’s efficient presses are now focusing on er- gonomics to achieve better maintenance in production time. The concepts developed and duly patented are: • Easy access to printing decks. • Sleeve change for anilox and plate cylinders. • Doctor blade change (MAGNETBlade). • Access to the overhead platform. • Self-cleaning and inking system (NATURALMixing). • Electronic equipment integration (COMPACTronic). FLEXOEfficiency, as a concept, includes printing decks adapted for front-side, horizontal mounting. They are posi- tioned in a radial pattern situated in the central drum, and arranged compactly with easy access to the printing decks. The design creates easy access for maintenance and daily operational needs and allows the most regular operations to be completed rapidly and easily. Changing anilox and plate cylinder sleeves in just a matter of minutes is now possible, thanks to clamps that are opened manually, simply and quickly.
