Home Living : September 27th 2011
2 HLF - HOME LIVING: NORTH WEST, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 HOMELIVING » ADVERTISING FEATURE Reaching a con-scents-us NSW is a ''scents-itive'' state, with a survey revealing 57 per cent of us won't even eat in a smelly home. Ambi Pur, the brand known for eliminating odours around the world, released the first Australian Scentsus, revealing the power and preference of the Aussie nose. The report said 93 per cent of people in NSW are big believers in the power of scent to alter mood, 87 per cent to evoke memories and 79 per cent to represent a clean environment. Scentsus spokeswoman comedienne Fiona O'Loughlin (pictured) said the most powerful thing about our sense of smell is that we can't switch it off. ''You can close your eyes and block your ears, but it's hard not to breathe in the air around you,'' she said. ''The insights uncovered by Ambi Pur in the first Australian Scentsus prove that people in NSW are strongly influenced by smell and that they have some interesting habits and preferences when it comes to scent. ''I fully support the nationwide initiative from Ambi Pur to help Australians to breathe happy simply because smell affects our moods enormously and it's intrinsically important to people, no matter what our surroundings.'' Ambi Pur Air Effects uses innovative technology which interacts with and eliminates odour molecules in the air, at the same time, delivering a fresh mist of fine perfume. The Ambi Pur Scentsus was conducted nationally by Galaxy Research, on behalf of Ambi Pur, in August. A total of 1269 people between the ages of 25-64 were surveyed, including 257 in NSW. Details: www.facebook.com.au/ambipurANZ Key survey findings NSW people cannot rely on friends and family to say when they are on the nose, with those surveyed more likely to tell you that your pet smells bad (67 per cent) as opposed to your breath (40 per cent); Rev-heads and nurturing types dominate in NSW for two in five people, with new car smell and new baby smell triggering fond memories; Home fragrance is the new decor with two-thirds saying they noticed the odour of a room over the colour of the walls and the temperature. People preferred the smell of dirty doonas (93 per cent), dirty laundry (88 per cent) and worn-out joggers (81 per cent) to smelly feet, dirty nappies and eating in dirty restaurants, respectively. 59 per cent of those polled said fish markets were the pongiest places. While one in four believe fitness instructors have the smelliest job in the country, garbage truck drivers top the list (82 per cent) followed by seafood salespeople (48 per cent) and zoo keepers (48 per cent).
