HLN-HOMELIVING:NORTH,Tuesday,October11,20113 HOMELIVING ●● ●● Planning to stay cool Ceiling insulation cuts indoor temperatures. Fans circulate the air around the room and are cheaper to run. The mercury is rising, but your energy bill doesn’t have to if you prepare well for the warmer months. Ausgrid’s energy-efficiency expert Paul Myors suggests simple steps to stay cool without burning a hole in your pocket. A four-person household can cut up to 10 per cent off their electricity bill and up to one tonne of CO2 from household emissions, by proper planning. ❏ Ceiling insulation can reduce indoor temperatures by as much as 10C in summer and cut your cooling costs by up to 30 per cent. However, keeping the heat off your house in the first place is even better. ❏ Start by shading windows with external blinds, pergolas or even trees and plants. Each square metre of direct sun on or through windows can be like running a one-bar radiator in your home. ❏ Leave doors and windows on opposite sides of your home open to take advantage of natural breezes and make the most of cross ventilation. ❏ On milder summer days, consider using the fan rather than the airconditioner. By circulating air around the room, fans can make it feel around 3C cooler and they cost as little as $5 a year to run. ❏ Buy a thermometer so you know exactly how warm it is inside. ❏ If you need to use the airconditioner, try to avoid over-cooling to below 23C. Each extra degree lower can add up to 10 per cent to running costs. ❏ More tips: www.ausgrid.com.au; follow Paul on Twitter @PMyors—Ausgrid TWINLITE AWNINGS (Aust) Pty Ltd Lic No 150568C 2185166_30/8 *8mm Lexan Twinwall Polycarbonate Double-Sided UV Protected Panels are directly imported from Germany SPRING INTO SUMMER LIVING CURVED, DOMES, GABLE, FLAT, RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL THE BEST PROTECTION IN ANY WEATHER 10 YEAR MANUFACTURE WARRANTY FREE MEASURE & QUOTE FACTORY PRICES Showroom & Factory: Unit 1/10 Hornsby St, Hornsby www.twinliteawnings.com.au firstname.lastname@example.org PHONE: 9482 7000 LEATHER CARE SPECIALISTS Home - Office - Auto - Boat - Plane p99050607 m0410606040 e email@example.com w devineleathercare.com.au BEFORE AFTER 2018590m29/3 Renew, protect or recolour your leather furniture DEVINE LEATHERCARE Chairs & Lounges Permanent Exhibition Showroom & Warehouse 10/1 Vuko Place Warriewood NSW 2102 Phone: 02 9913 1133 Castle Hill Home Hub Centre Cnr Hudson & Victoria Ave Castle Hill NSW 2154 Phone: 02 9634 8855 www.niceinteriors.com.au Any size Only 3 weeks delivery Australian Made 2156479 9/8 #OPENHAGEN SEATER ONLY CM WIDE Specialists in the manufacture, supply and installation of aluminium windows and doors Sydney wide Free no obligation measure and quote PHONE 9623 5611 Email firstname.lastname@example.org www.betaview.com.au 2176010i1/3 On custom Shutters, Blinds, Curtains & Awnings Free Installation 131913 accentblinds.com.au Imp r o v e y ou r homeAND s a v emone y Alexandria .
