Market gardeners, and horticulturalists gather to display produce in baskets overflowing with colour, bright flower bunches billow on stalls and you can feast on delicious cheeses, nuts, olives, preserves and breads delivered to the festival direct from boutique kitchens and the farm gate. Restaurateurs showcase special tastings menus for just a few dollars. Match oysters, barbecued prawns, fragrant laksas or any of the dozens of dishes with local wines. There’s music and entertainment, too. Listen, see, smell, touch, taste - enjoy! hastings farmers’ market At the Wauchope Showground on the fourth Saturday each month, country producers unload fresh produce and preserves in a glorious, colourful array on stalls indoors and out. Taste their wares; breakfast on warm pastries, brewed coffee and fresh kiwi fruit as you stroll along; select the makings of a picnic; take away an Indian curry; join a free cooking demonstration and sample the results. The Visitor Information Centre can direct you to winery events and farm gate experiences: watch cheese-making, attend a farmhouse cooking school, view nuts being processed, pluck tiny scarlet tomatoes from towering vines or pick your own basket of succulent sweet strawberries. service excellence The Greater Port Macquarie Customer Care programme works with local businesses through an accreditation and training programme, to achieve excellence in customer service.
