Best of all it lets you take control of your profits. www.rotoflex.com lessons about my family ’s history--a history that has been retold thousands of times in that office. The room is wall- to-wall with photo albums, scrapbooks, sketches, medals and awards, all of which now serve as a commemorative memorial to all that he was and all the things he was proud of--most notably, his family, his successful career as a printer and the patriotic service and sacrifices that he and his brothers gave for this country. As I look back on those times now, I understand why he would retell the sto- ries from his youth, the experiences that he and his siblings had and the marvel- ous history of the Salmaggi family. It was imperative that I fully under- stand our family ’s experience. And that I developed a working knowledge of the events, so as to demonstrate to others how that experience has been cement- ed into the framework of history and shines within the mosaic of American culture. My grandfather mastered the ability to tell captivating stories that, when combined, would not only form a fas- cinating oral history but also the basis and very foundation for my own identity. A true renaissance man, Henry lived life to its very fullest and managed to accomplish so much in his lifetime. I aspire to reach the level of eminence that he had--as a man, an American, an artist, a boxer, a singer, a carpenter, a comedian, a printer, an entertainer, a leader, a teacher, a hero, a friend, a loving sibling, a faithful husband and an inspirational father, grandfather and even great grandfather. He was able to illuminate an entire room, a skill he would possess even during the final days of his life. It will be hard for all of us and he will be espe- cially missed during holidays when we all convene to give thanks for all we have. We must remember that he’d much rather see us rejoice in the time we shared with him than allow us to feel sorrow for his passing. So, let us all honor and remember the remarkable life of Henry Francis Salmag- gi. For we have all been gifted with the val- ues and traditions that have been passed on by this man and this entire generation. Henry had the many strengths and at- tributes that we all aspire to achieve. He used his skills acquired from his eventful life to assemble the scrapbooks that will continue to tell his story and the legacy of the Salmaggi family for all posterity. Let us not forget that he was proud of us and that we should all be truly proud and grateful for him. We should all vow to always lead our lives with the same level of courage, resolve and enthusiasm in which he has led his. Let’s continue to make him proud. I’d like to close with something a dear friend shared with my father, Henry Felix, regarding my grandfather. He said, “I believe that in the last few seconds of his life and between the images of people and places from his past, just before his last breath...he heard the voices of his brothers and suddenly he was in France again. With his brothers at his side, to- gether they marched forward to confront and destroy a final evil. Henry is with God today and he is at peace. ” n www.flexography.org november 2011 FLEXO 27 FLX_November11.indd 27 11/8/11 3:53 PM
