From Port Macquarie, head north towards Kempsey. Take the Crescent Head turnoff to visit this quiet seaside village and popular surfing beach. From Crescent Head, travel via Gladstone towards South West Rocks. Explore dramatic headlands and secluded beaches via signed walking tracks throughout Hat Head National Park. The lookout near Smoky Cape Lighthouse affords spectacular coastal views. Visit Trial Bay Gaol, established in 1876 as an experimental public works gaol to house inmates to build the local breakwater. The gaol closed in 1904 but re-opened during World War 1 to house German male internees. A range of scenic walks can also be found within the surrounding Arakoon State Recreation Area. Length Approx. At North Haven follow the bank of the Camden Haven River into Laurieton, and cross the river towards Dunbogan, where you can explore Crowdy Bay National Park or Camden Head and Kattang Nature Reserve with 58 hectares of coastal bush bordered by the vertical cliffs of Perpendicular Point. Charles Hamey Lookout is one of several lookouts in the park providing views in all directions. Pilot Beach at the mouth of the Camden Haven River offers sheltered swimming and is a popular beach for families. Coming back through Laurieton continue towards Kew and visit majestic North Brother Mountain in Dooragan National Park. At the summit viewing platforms provide extensive panoramas over the whole of the Camden Haven or perhaps you might like to walk the rainforest loop through lush sub-tropical rainforest.
