Home Living : November 15th 2011
HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, November 15, 2011 7 IN THE GARDEN CASE FOR THE SOFT TOUCH HARD LINES NEED A CONTRAST STRONG THEME With the garden a strong theme for this season's decorating, its colours are also making a comeback. It is also time to freshen up the home interior, so be inspired by the latest seasonal trend and adapt the garden colours of eucalypt and sage green complemented with pale pinks, aqua blues, violet and magnolia whites. You can contact John at email@example.com Wrought iron and cane furniture is on its way back. Picture: courtesy SANDY DE BEYER COLUMN JOHN EUSSEN Homewares and Design Specialist THE latest interior trends con- tinue to be influenced from many elements around the globe. However it is apparent that garden accessories reflect the ad- aptation of current furnishing trends and have taken a dramatic change to complement the hard- lined finishes of modern housing architecture. Traditional square-edged pots, troughs and planters are now made in softer, round-edge fini- shes with softer muted shades of grey and white, accommodating the green foliage of traditional English gardens. Think gardenias, buxus, mag- nolias and geraniums as opposed to the more architectural plants such as yuccas and agaves. There has never been a more important link between the home and garden, says Sandy de Beyer, garden stylist and photographer. Outdoor tables, pots and garden accessories are designed with architectural finishes in mind. ''This is a direct flow-on from the outside room we have been seeing over the past five years,'' says de Beyer. The romance of wrought iron and cane furniture is also on its way back with strong curves that offer contrast to hard-edged table settings. A link to this is the spring- summer furnishing accessories in colours of the garden with whimsi- cal prints and hand-painted motifs imitating naivety.
