Home Living : December 6th 2011
8 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 fu1959 TABLE SETTING SNOW WHITE WONDERLAND THINK snowy white when decorating your table this year. Despite the lack of snow in this part of the world, tablecloth de- signer Dandi says it is time to transform your dinner table into a white wonderland. The dining table, a place of sharing, celebration and congre- gation where the family enjoys a feast, is the perfect focal point to add a touch of white and wintery styling. Dandi co-designer Manuela Strano suggests covering your table in a crisp white tablecloth and placing a folded white fabric napkin at each place setting. To dress up your table, Ms Strano suggests looking in your garden for inspiration for natural decorations. Branches from your garden can look fantastic as centrepieces on the table. To keep with your white theme, remove any leaves and wind a thin strip of fabric around each of the branches, from the tip to the base. Then place your crafty branches in a white vase. CHRISTMAS DECORATING THE TABLE MAKE SURE IT SETS THE MOOD Janita Singh Fresh flowers and pot plants in Christmas colours are excellent choices. CHRISTMAS means food and fe- stivities with loved ones and a beautifully decorated Christmas table sets the mood. Decorating your table doesn't have to be a hard task. Make this a family affair for more bonding time together. Think theme: Start off by work- ing out a theme. Do you want something traditional or modern? If you're decorating other parts of the house, try and tie in with the overall look and feel. Having said this, your table decoration can make a statement on its own. Pick a few colours to work with. Bring out your best china and silverware or any spec- ial dishes. Set your table with a tablecloth, table runner, place- mats and napkins in holiday colours and prints, making sure the prints don't clash with other things you will add on later. Centrepieces: It's important to make a focal point. This could be anything -- wreaths, candles, trin- kets and treasures. Many people like using floral arrangements as centrepieces. Fresh flowers and pot plants in Christmas colours are excellent choices. You can choose a large decorative bowl or basket filled with pine cones, berries and fruits. Extra elegance: For more in- terest, why not put a few small gifts on the table. Trinkets filled with homemade candies, nuts or even jewellery will add more in- terest to the table during Christ- mas lunch. Bonbons have a tra- ditional place. Bring out festive candles and when guests arrive, light some incense sticks or oil burners. Something old, something new: Not everything has to be new. Some used decorations from last year will look just as good. And a special Christmas heirloom hand- ed down by grandma is a perfect way to set the mood. It's all about getting the right balance. www.fleurfurniture.com.au FRENCH STYLE BEDROOM AND DINING SUITES | CHANDELIERS LAMPS 267 Victoria Road, GLADESVILLE p (02) 9817 1844 | f (02) 9818 3257 Parking to the rear of shop | Closed Mondays -- Open Tuesday to Sunday 10am - 5pm 2116078 16/8 Decks Pergolas Stainless steel wire handrail Lattice Privacy Screens DIY pergola and deck kits Lic No: 170944C FREE LOCAL DELIVERY SHOWROOM OPEN 6 DAYS OUTDOOR PINE FREE DESIGN & QUOTE 5 CHILVERS ROAD THORNLEIGH www.thomsonsoutdoorpine.com.au 2136330i hln wk39 PHONE: 9980 7611 THOMSON S Glass Roof Experts For a Free Measure and Quote ring us on 9540 3222 Extend in Glass and add light and Space to your home with a Glass Roof Extension, Entertainment Area or Conservatory.
