Home Living : December 6th 2011
HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 1 'TIS THE SEASON TO BE PREPARED HOW TO AVOID CHRISTMAS FUSS Janita Singh Be prepared and Christmas will be much less demanding. GET SMART Be a smart shopper and you'll not only to save money but stress. Start with the basics -- a shopping list to guide you through this silly season. Shop around Look through advertisements, flyers and brochures. Don't wait until a week away from Christmas to shop. Many pre-packed products can be bought now. Each time you do a normal grocery shop, buy few Christmas items on your shopping list. Shopping at discount shops is a smart way to save on things like decorations and household items. Second-hand shops also have good bargains. Food and entertainment When planning Christmas lunch or dinner, keep it simple. Have lots of fresh fruit drinks or fruit punch. Keep the food simple and casual. Cakes and biscuits can be prepared in large quantities ahead of time. So can dips and dressings. Outdoor barbecues always go down well. With a main course and lots of sides and salads, your food should be sorted in no time. PARTY SEASON CHRISTMAS brings with it cheer and challenges. Entertaining friends and family adds to the pressure. While we cannot avoid the fuss associated with Christ- mas traditions, we can be better prepared. Have a plan. Start with a list, work out a budget and make a few rounds of the shops and supermar- kets for ideas on entertainment and to check specials. Look at your home. It's time to get everything in order. Replace and revamp everything you may have neglected in the year. This is also a good excuse to invest in some new furniture or change those curtains and blinds. Add new cushions, rugs and throws for a fresh look. Before taking up any Christmas decorating projects, think of things that will make your guests feel right at home. If you have people over for Christmas lunch, ensure there is adequate seating. Add seating arrangements all over the house -- large floor cushions are a good investment for all those entertaining occasions. But your home is already too crowded, throw out anything not needed or pack and store away items from the last few seasons. Once you have worked out space, get on to your decorating projects. Christmas decorating can be as simple or as elaborate as your imagination. Seen any great ideas? Keep in mind not only what you're buying but the policies on refunds, warranties and guarantees. Always keep receipts. HAVE A GREEN CHRISTMAS This year think of ways you can have a greener Christmas. Wrap presents using recycled paper or brown paper bags and add a more vintage look to your present. Bake homemade treats as gifts. LIGHT UP THE HOUSE In addition to lighting your Christmas tree, go the extra mile and showcase some lighting on windows and outdoors. Outdoor decoration is an excellent way to get the whole family involved. • 2 x Mirror doors • Wall to wall up to 2.4m wide • 1 x Single Hanging space • 1 x Draw unit (4 draws) + 3 shelving •1xShoerack • 1 x Double hanging space • 3 x mirror doors •Walltowallupto 3.6m wide Bankstown 9786 0395e Surcharge applies to Campbelltown area Wally's Wardrobe World 2173633i hlc wk49 up to 2.4m wide up to 3.6m wide 2.4m high 2.4m high $570 inc GST $870 inc GST 1300 997 409 Call us now to book your free in home consult with our mobile showroom. www.bosetti.com.au Quality Australian Made Products Locally owned hills district service bosetti blinds shutters awnings on sale now!
