2 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, December 13, 2011 fu1959 SMALL WONDERS HOW TO USE EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY IF you live in an apart- ment or house which doesn't have too much space, don't stress. A small space can cleverly be utilised to showcase all your Christmas trinkets and treasures. Look into all the nooks and crannies and you are sure to find space you normally overlook. The following tips can help you turn your shoebox into a spectacular setting. Window dressing: Use windows to showcase your holiday cheer. Use wall space: Decorate frames and paste Christmas decorations on your wall. Going vertical: If space is limited, hang your decorations. Look for unexpected places such as lights, chandeliers, win- dows and hallways to dangle a few sparkles. Use corners: We tend to overlook corners, but they are perfect for decorations. Think small: When space is limited, think small. No point in investing in huge wreaths and overpowering decorations. DECORATIONS MORE THAN BAUBLES KEEP IT COLOURFUL BUT SIMPLE Simple colours can set a festive tone for Christmas decorations. Janita Singh CHRISTMAS decorations are more than just balls and baub- les. They set the tone for that special day. Colours have it: When buy- ing decorations, always think about colour. Pick a colour you want to work with and ad- ditional patterned designs. Do not use everything in one solid colour and design. Safe bet: It is OK to go with safer options such as neutral or earthy colours with a few brigh- ter accent colours. Create centrepieces: Use everyday items such as a cake stand or even a box to display centrepieces. Use different heights for more interest. Go natural: Bring pot plants indoors and decorate with lights, tinsel and ribbons. Entry point: Display your holiday treasure in the entry, hallway or stairway. Show your cards: All the festive cards you receive should have a place of their own when decorating. Display on windows or hang them from the tree. Attention to detail: Tie your cushions and chairs with ribbons. Old is new: Use old pots, pans, bottles and paint or spray them in festive colours.
