FLEXO Magazine : December 2011
FLEXO: Is there anything that you would like to add, or say to your fellow delegates? BUTLER: This year’s Forum has been the most exciting time for me. I get to work with some of the most amazing people. We truly have an outstanding industry and I am very proud tobeapartofit.Iwouldnotbe able to participate, if not for the never-ending support from my company, Printpack, and the staff at the FTA for having the faith in me to lead the charge in San Antonio in 2012. We have worked very diligently to bring together a comprehensive FTA Forum that you will continue to reflect on long after you depart. MULLEN: The 2012 Excellence in Flexography Awards, the Hall of Fame Award, the awards for high school and college contributions in the Phoenix Challenge—they all recognize excellence but also foster the traditions and the mission of the FTA. The organization recog- nizes groups, organizations and individuals who care enough about the process to continually raise the bar. This is the reality of our business. Without these people and these advance- ments, we would still be basical- ly rubber stamping aniline dyes onto only porous substrates. The recognition of excellence is our next step on the ladder. I have learned so many things from FTA. When I started in the business I was reading articles from Doug Tuttle and Jim Ely. Later, Sam Gilbert became a mentor and I came to know Arleen Neustein, Tony Bart, Dave Horsman and Jim Feeney. The specific knowledge that I gained from FTA gave me what cred- ibility I may have as I discuss the process and the market with our customers and peers. Further, as in any great organiza- tion, I saw people that I wanted to emulate—people who were not satisfied with the status quo, people who truly loved what they did for a living. I’ll go so far as to say that anyone starting in this business or wishing to improve and stay current is missing the boat if he or she is not with us this March in San Antonio. Forum and INFO*FLEX combine to make for the event of the year. n www.flexography.org december 2011 FLEXO 47 TAKE CONTROL Control your roll quality, speed, workflow and bottom line.
