HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 1 TAKE CONTROL OF PARTY PLANNING A LITTLE PREPARATION GOES A LONG WAY Janita Singh Being the perfect Christmas host requires preparation. FESTIVE FUN Festive parties are fun but can be costly. With some smart planning and a few tricks you can throw a holiday party without throwing away your budget. If lots of people are invited, why not get them to bring a dish each. Pot luck is one of the cheapest ways to throw a party with a variety of tasty food. As host you can supply drinks and some finger food. Similarly you can get your guests to bring their favourite drinks. Instead of a proper lunch or dinner, when sending your invitation be specific and point out it is for light refreshments. Then you can serve hors d'oeuvres and some light food. This is not only fuss-free but will save you hours of slaving in the kitchen. Cheese platters and fondue parties are also great ideas. CHRISTMAS CHEER WITH only days left before Christmas, it's time to put everything together to avoid last-minute stress. You should have already done some shopping, bought some gifts and wrapped them, mailed Christmas cards, planned what the Christmas lunch or dinner menu will look like, sorted the guest list and entertain- ment and put up the Christ- mas tree and decorations. What's left to do between now and the actual day is checking to see everything is going to plan. Start by checking the con- dition of your home. Sure, you've given it a good clean over the last few weeks, but it pays to check again. If necessary, give it another quick dusting, vacuuming, polishing and final touches. When preparing for Christmas, keep in mind that the most important part of the holiday is your family and friends gather- ing together to celebrate. Do what you can to help make everyone feel welcome. Be sure that you decorate your home and tree for the people who will enjoy it. Be mindful of heirloom Christ- mas decorations if inquisi- tive children are coming. Don't set your table with the finest linen if the food will be messy and don't use your favourite china for little children who may break it. Make sure every room is set and ready. If accommo- dating guests, be sure to have enough room. Guest rooms should be clutter-free and put out ex- tra towels and blankets and pillows ahead of time. If you're just pulling out a sofa bed, make sure it's in good condition and clean. Give guests some storage space by putting a basket in the room. As Christmas Day gets closer, set up some fresh flowers. Seen any great ideas? IT'S TIME TO PARTY When hosting parties, think of savings. Take advantage of the summer weather and the great outdoors to enjoy time with friends and family. CHRISTMAS IDEAS It's not all about balls and baubles. Buy a variety of festive wall stickers and stick them in a pattern. Replace photos in frames with Christmas photos. • 2 x Mirror doors • Wall to wall up to 2.4m wide • 1 x Single Hanging space • 1 x Draw unit (4 draws) + 3 shelving •1xShoerack • 1 x Double hanging space • 3 x mirror doors •Walltowallupto 3.6m wide Bankstown 9786 0395e Surcharge applies to Campbelltown area Wally's Wardrobe World 2173633i hlc wk49 up to 2.4m wide up to 3.6m wide 2.4m high 2.4m high $570 inc GST $870 inc GST BUY DIRECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND SAVE $$$ METAL ROOFING PRODUCTS PTY LTD We service the whole Sydney Metropolitan Area 82 Glendenning Road Glendenning Ph 9675 5622 www.zammitroofing.com.au We supply • Carports & awning kits • Metal roofing • Guttering • Flashings & all roofing accessories AMMIT 2253230 5/7 NO OBLIGATION FREE MEASURE & QUOTE +)4#(%. -!+%/6%23 2ENOVATE YOUR EXISTING KITCHEN .O DEMOLITION REQUIRED U "ENCHTOPS SPLASHBACKS RESURFACED WITH ENGINEERED STONE 'RANIT U "ENCHTOPS RESURFACED IN AS LITTLE AS DAY U 4HE 'RANIT IS EASY TO MAINTAIN HEAT STAIN SCRATCH RESISTANT U 7E CAN REPLACE YOUR OLD KITCHEN DOORS AND PANELS U 7E CAN MODIFY ADD REMOVE CABINETS TO MAKE YOUR KITCHEN MORE FUNCTIONAL U 7E CAN INSTALL YOUR EXISTING OR NEW APPLIANCES U 7E CAN ALSO DESIGN INSTALL YOUR BRAND NEW KITCHEN 6ISIT OUR SHOWROOM TODAY 3HOWROOM OPEN DAYS 3HOP (UME (WY #NR OF "OUNDARY 2D (UME (WY ,IVERPOOL .EXT TO -C'RATH (OLDEN GRANITETRANSFORMATIONS COM AU License: 224563C 2100398 13/12 MANUFACTURER DIRECT QUALITY PRODUCTS AT TRADE PRICES 2/52 Alfred Rd, Chipping Norton (opp Mack Trucks) CALL TODAY 1300 302 822 www.maverickrollerproducts.com.au ROLLER SHUTTERS L Domestic Roller Shutters L Shopfront Roller Shutters L Pergola Roller Shutters L Heavy Duty Extruded Shutters L 10 Year Written Warranty L Fast Professional Installation by Qualified Tradesman L Reduce Heating & Cooling Bills L Deter Burglars L Reduce Noise L Storm Protection FREE MEASURE & QUOTE Lic No 196633C WE SERVICE MOST BRANDS OF SHUTTERS 2123814i 17/5 MD Regular MD Budget MD Luxury FROM $399 ,IC .O # !". 48 HOUR TURN AROUND 2116783m 13/12 0 Showroom & Factory: Fax: 77 Larra St, Yennora 9632 1399 Specialising in Shopfront & Domestic Roller Shutters SAVE $$$ - FACTORY DIRECT PRICES Master Lic:408646770 Roller Shutters Shopfront Shutters Stainless Steel Doors Automatic Garage Doors FREE MEASURE & QUOTES Call 9632 1111 www.burwoodshutters.com.au 5% OFF YOUR LOWEST GENUINE PRICE Window Shutters Safety Doors Window Grilles Automatic Gates 2061737i hlw wk15
